Yes, I got my laptop in 2003 (ok running Cubase, Visual Studio, World of Warcraft and Everquest) and moved into my netbook last year, don't miss the desktop at all. It's now just connected to the TV as a media server. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I say for what you want yes, currys have a basic i3 acer which i have just got my son, runs cool, now his last one was over £500 and only lasted 2 years with minimal use and never leaving the house and that had a seperate vid card and ran bloody red hot, it died so i complained to Tesco and they tried to fob me off with the out of warranty shit so i quoted sale of goods act and that it should have lasted more than 2 years at that price, they were very nice and gave me back over £200 in compo and said keep the laptop, which i sold on ebay for £150 for parts i kept the hd out of it and bought a caddy so its a spare external drive now, i still have a 2 gig stick of samsung memory to flog on ebay yet. So i bought him the i3 acer for his uni work and it runs fine £399, just remember the more powerfull they are the more the risk of laptop death as far as my experiance goes as they will get hot, i personally prefer desktops and would only get a basic one for myself if i ever bought one, also the more powerfull ones tend to eat there batteries as the charge time is not that good.
Oh and i would have returned tescos good will as they also sold the i3 acer but it was £70 dearer there and they would not price match

Essentially it boils down to whether you want to wander round with it or not.
You'll pay less for the equivalent spec tower/desktop, it'll be more modular/upgradable, have (or support) a bigger screen, easier to mend, no battery life issues.
BUT
You won't be able to wander round with it |
