Work out correct 16:9 dimensions using height only

I've searched online but i can't find anything, i'm probably searching for the wrong thing but have no idea so have turned to the BCF gods to help me out.

Can anyone tell me how to work out what the width a 16:9 image should be if the height is 60 pixels or lines high.

So the image has to be 60 pixels high, what width would that be if it was in 16:9 format.

Hi

(Width / 9) * 16

So (60/9) * 16 = 106.66667

Hi

Real fun happens when trying to work out elegantly how to resize an image of size X*Y to fit inside a box size M*N, where the ratio of width to height isn't necessarily common.

Hes right though, ratios are year 9 stuff, or at least they were in my day - and I'm 23 and rubbish at maths.

Really? seems like the type of thing i would have expected to be taught at primary level? Maybe my memory of school has all just blurred into one... But then i am 26 and am still in full time education mostly learning maths Razz

After 15 years of maths I bet it does blur into one! Did it at A level myself, that was enough. Well enough to tell me that my original idea of a career in engineering would be a really bad idea.
