Just a quickie but I'm an excel noob.

I want to use this formula:

AVERAGEIF(F10:F16,J5 "<>0")

but when I add the J5 it gives me an error. How can I prevent this?

What are you trying to do?

My beer addled brain can't compute at the moment but if you've not solved it by tomorrow I'll have a look at work. More familiar with COUNTIF, SUMIF, WHATIF and pretty much every other IF though!

Thanks for the replies - I got around it by working another way. I was using averageif to ignore cells with '0' in them, but the problem I actually had was I wanted to calculate the average value of a number of cells, some were in a contiguous row (so I put in the range) and one other single cell. It didn't like the single cell I put in.
