Whats the law regarding traffic coppers with a laser speed camera?

Do there have to be "speed camera" signs along the road?

Does he have to be easily visible? etc etc

Cheers

https://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/radar1.htm

Hand held radar is typically used by the roadside by one officer, he will take the reading and then pull you over. Incidentally it is common practice for the operator to hide from view of the opposite direction traffic so that they don't flash the ones he wants to measure as they come towards him.

Ah, not the cool story (bro) of an experience on Hampstead Heath then Neutral

It's only fixed cameras that have to be signposted, I think.

They tend to put those up all over the place these days, even when they rarely (if ever) actually lurk there. Such as on parts of the A259.

But a few weeks ago there was an ambush waiting up ahead that wasn't signposted just outside Gillingham, heading towards Sittingbourne (props to the white van man who flashed a warning to the several of us heading that way).

Guidance notes for CSW users of Speedars;

The CSW Volunteers record the registration numbers of vehicles exceeding the speed limit
this information is passed to the CSW Coordinator and a letter is sent warning the
