So I applied for a job as a census interviewer.
Providing they accept it, there will be no :

1. Asking why "biker" is still not listed as a religion*
2. Eating of my liver with fava beans and a nice chianti.

*(I plan to merely tick "other" and then write "biker", "Jedi" or whatever else required in the appropriate gap)

I got a form through today telling me to fill it out or I'd get fined, I must act now blah blah blah.

It got a message on the front page in thick black marker pen telling them what I think of threats and to fill it in themselves.

One step up from a traffic warden at least though lol.

*shrugs*
I only see it that I would be helping people, same as a translator or a person who helps fill forms for people who can't read or write.

Its not about being nosey or about helping the government "find stuff out", cos actually I don't give a toss.

Its about that people have to fill it out or they risk a fine; I didn't inflict that fine, and I'm not collecting it - I'm helping them AVOID getting fined from lack of ability to complete a form. If they have trouble filling it, then I am happy to help them.

Although I fully expect to be treated like some sort of bailiff.

But then if someone wants to get arsey about it, the onus is on the individual to fill it out, not me.

If you wanta fill out the form in red crayon saying "sod off you nosey so and so's", then get on with it.

As I'm about to leave my other job, the extra cash will come in handy. So (providing they do accept me, cos I'm not entirely sure they will Laughing ) ... they're paying an hourly rate, not a success-rate.

That was plan-B for me, if I could be arsed. Turns out I couldn't.

You'll get stung for a grand then. Apparently they fined only 38 people last time.

Exactly.
If you want to tick "Other" under religion and put "Biker" ... go for it.

People get their privacy knickers in a twist, but they give away similar and indeed more personal information on regular benefit forms.

The census form doesn't ask you what disabilities you have that need everyday help with. Anybody who has filled a form for incapacity benefit knows that you have to practically describe whether and how you need help with wiping your arse every day so as to get on a higher level of financial assistance to even survive.

Compared to those questions, I see nothing as intrusive on the census form I've received.

People are all ready to make a fuss about it, but they revere such things as the Domesday book as being of historical value. So ... that's all that was: a form of census.

Censuses (censii?) are ancient, as old as history, people need to understand that ... and then just do whatever they want about it.

I take it when they send me the court summons they'll have magically found my name out then, because I didn't put it on the form.

Should be amusing, seeing 'The Occupier' summonsed.

That's the frustrating thing, though, cos if they REALLY wanted the information they are asking, they would be better off spending their resources on collating information they already have.

Because most of it probably actually is on government computers in a LARGE majority of cases these days, anyway.

So basically another expensive time-wasting effort.

Fair play

From my perspective, I treat people as people, its the dicks who ask me the details on the door then get smarmy telling me I'll be fined when I say no. They get treated like shit, as I find its a great response to being spoken to like shit. But knowing you and your way with people I have no doubt whatsoever that you'll be one of the few not-arsey ones and get on well with it.

Marker actually, if i'd thought of crayon I would have used one though lol.

Its not about privacy for me though, its about someone (people who govern the census) telling me that if I don't do this then they'll do that.

"Fucking do it then" is my response, they never have.

It would be more accurate if they just asked Tesco for their Club Card database Smile

They can access everyones facebook page if they ask nicely/bribe the owners under government powers so they'd be better off doing that, will give them all the info they need, although mainly what everyone's favourite drinking establishment is.

Mmm, who are they going to summons - me or the missus? Which Occupier failed to fill it in?

Might be a lark to complete it in Klingon or Welsh or some other made up language though. Qapla', look you.

Thats what rubbed me up the wrong way as well to be honest. Instead of "Dear Citizen, we would be grateful if you would take the time to fill this out".

It's fucking do this or pay the fine.

Toss.

Just read that 3 million refused to comply in 2001. 38 out of 3 million isn't bad odds Smile

I admit to being a tad curious as to what happens with the 56 people living in a three bed flat above a kebab shop??
