NSR marzocchi fork oil

Hi,
i have an italian nsr125 and i need to change fork seals. I read in another post that i must fill each fork with 280ml of fork oil, it's the right amount also for my marzocchi forks?

Hi

If this is for the NSR125 then it is 280cc of fluid in each fork leg. A better measurement is the air gap which should be 130mm (the total fluid is only meaningful if the forks have been stripped down and all the old fluid removed).

To set the fork oil level, fully compress the front forks and remove the spring. You then fill the fork with fluid until it is 130mm from the top of the forks. Then extend the forks, replace the springs and finish putting them together

Honda specify to use ATF (automatic transmission fluid) in the front forks.

PS - If you have the older NS125 then they take 210cc of oil / 144mm air gap.

280cc??? I heard it should be 319 ml, I don't know what does cc mean, but I hope I didn't fill it too much Embarassed

319cc is the correct amount for the late shape NSR like the one in your avatar picture. I think these later bikes were fitted with Showa forks rather than Marzocchi ones.

Sorry i'm already here...what you mean for atf oil? I have some gear oil sae 10W40 in my box, can i use it? The density is right or it's better a sae20w? Last time i user a fork oil sae15w but the forks weren't too stiff...

Hi

I would stick to fork oil normally, but Honda recommend using Automatic Transmission Fluid (the stuff you fill the auto gearbox with in a car, and also used in power steering systems).

Hate to think what effect 10w40 would have but it would probably be too viscous.
