Solar powered phone

Had my usual monthly mag come from germany yesterday and had a mobile phone advertised in there, googled and here it is.

Thought it could be handy for those of us that like to sod off on the bike for weeks at a time.

Solar recharge panel on the back, built in torch, water and shock resistant, FM radio, standby of up to 8 days.
No camera or bluetooth but i could live with that.

Sceptical to say the least. My experience with cheap small solar pieces of tech has not been positive. I'd prefer to get a charger hooked up to the bike battery instead and take whatever devices you want.

Would be interested to hear how you get on with it though

Interesting idea but in practice how easy would it be to leave it in full light long enough?
On a bike you might put it in the clear map pocket on a tank bag perhaps.

It's not really a great idea to be honest, as mentioned, a phone spends most of it's time in your pocket so the solar charging is only likely to be of any use when you've totally run out of charge and are forced to leave it laying in the sun for a few hours. Map pockets are like greenhouses and so probably not a great place to keep a phone either.

It's a good idea, but equally, it takes very little time, money and effort to fit a phone charger to your bike.

Waterproofness is a plus though.
