Hi guys, wonder if you have any ideas we could try. The misses laptop was working fine last night. However this morning the laptop boots up but the screen is black. You can see a very very faint 'compaq' logo on boot up. But then that disapears. The brightness settings are ok. Any idea what could be the problem? Model is CQ61-436SA if thats any help.

There are a few inverter boards for the CQ61 models on eBay for around the £20 mark.

It could be just a poor connection though. OR a broken ribbon. Best thing to do is search for disassembly instructions and take a gander inside.

My shitty dell does this a lot. I've found 2 solutions:
Connect it to an external monitor, leave it a minute then unplug it -> screen backlight comes back on.

Let it boot to desktop then close the lid making it hibernate. Open it up again a minute later and it will come back out of hibernate and the backlight will come on.

Stupid fucking shitty Dell.

Mine has done this on rare occasions, I usually press the on key for a long time, till I hear it click off, then reboot it, and press return to load normally... and it works fine. Thumbs Up

I think you'll have an hdmi output so plugging into hdmi tv it should automatically switch over, this would allow you to save stuff if it has to go back.
To be fair they are usually very helpful with replace under warranty, if the dealer is reluctant get in touch with HP direct.
