What can I ride?

Passed my driving test last month (I'm 17), but going to get a car because prices are stupid. Just wondering if I pass my CBT what bikes I can ride?

A moped, up to 125cc.

Hi

You can ride a 125cc bike with up to 11kW (just under 15hp) as a learner with L plates once you have done your CBT. CBT lasts 2 years (ie, if you don't do your test within 2 years you have to retake your CBT). You can't carry a pillion or ride on the motorway.

Also when doing my insurance for the bike, will it be UK Full car or provisional bike?

Yes, you could ride a CG125. And the provisional bike license is the important bit.

Do I have to apply for a Provisional bike license even though I got a full car license?

Hi

You need a provisional bike license. You current license may or may not have the groups on it for a provisional bike license. You will need to check the groups on it.

Once you have that sorted you can do CBT and then you can ride on the road.

Yep, a motorcycle.

A moped is just a bike of under 50cc and with a top speed of under about 30mph (might be 50kmh / 51mph now, but the current rules do not seem to be that consistent).

As to the linked bike, no knowledge of it but it is a Chinese bike as far as I know. Check very carefully for how reliable it is, what resale values are like (if it has one) and whether you can get spares.

Chinese bikes are almost a 'no go' area to be honest, but your young and no doubt short on cash, IF you cant afford anything else then...suppose Chinese is mildly better than nothing .

Since you passed your car test, providing you have category p on your license, do your CBT and you can ride a moped without L plates and carry a passenger (but might be quicker walking with them instead) for the duration of your license. Anything else up to the learner legal limit and you need L plates and your CBT is only valid for 2 years and you need category A on your license (provisional).

Pretty sure the above is not true... thought that only applied if you passed before a certain year?

+1 for the Cygnus, I owned one a few years ago. Did about 65mph and really good on juice as you'd expect. My reg/rec did go though, dunno if that's common or not.

If you passed your car test before February 2001 you have full moped entitlement, if you pass it after, you need to do CBT and then you have full moped entitlement.

Rang up DVLA and they said I can ride anything up to 125cc with L plates.
