Some guy at college today started telling me about how his dad got caught doing 192mph on a 'firebird'.
He reckons his Dad was on a road which was near a racetrack. He got caught but explained to the police that he thought it was okay because it was near said 'racetrack'. Apparently the police said 'Oh, okay. No problem.' And let him on his way...

If you're gonna make up a 'cool story', at least make it believable mate!
Just thought I'd share Thumbs Up

I am wondering, do you out these people or do you just let them get on with it?

There is a compulsive liar at my work who lies to try and make himself seem cool or maybe to try and get friends. The thing is, it just does the opposite and makes you feel you can't trust him. He has the potential to be decent if he just stopped lying.

I think someone needs to put it to him straight in a big way. I just don't have the balls to tell him he's full of shit and that he needs to always tell the truth until people start trusting him.

Like, when you tell him about something like video games or something, he will make up shit like how he has a street fighter arcade machine (I actually believed this one because I didn't know him at the time). He also told my mate (who isn't at my work) that some guy came in, pulled a knife on him and cut his nose. It was like a spot on his nose and that didn't even happen. Laughing

There is a compulsive liar at my work....

Hmmmm depends.

if he thinks you believe his bull shit he's likely going to wan to talk to you all the more - can be useful in a work scenario as you can palm some work off to him, which as you're giving them attention they;ll likely do (if applied properly)

Also you can use them as a fall guy if you seriously fuck something up - if they say they didnt do it and it was you, well everyone knows that they are full of shit anyway right..?

Most the poeple Ive met like this though have been dicks, and usually not great at work anyway, as they are usually too busy thinking up the next great story....

Youve got a 600? Ive got a thou.... an R1.....98..... previously owned by chuck norris...

You've got a ford focus? Ive got a new RS, limited edition.... was owned by cosworth, then sold to prodrive and then tuned to 8654 bhp

Your new house / boat /playstation cost £xxxx/ mine cost that +10k....
etc etc

You dont really want to be associated with that, and TBH proably dont want to stir up crap so steer clear is probably the best advice, though outing them would be fun.

Had some chav trying to show off in front of a group of his mates the other day. I'd ridden the bike in to work, and was waiting for the security guard to open the barrier into the carpark.

While I'm stood at the intercom, this guy reaches over and tries to rev the throttle.... (trying to twist the left handlebar)

- Hey mate, don't touch the bike!!
- Chill out man, I know about bikes, I've been riding most of my life.... Your bike is nice, what is it??
- Well it's got Suzuki in big white letters across the tank, and the Bandit logo on the tail. Rolling Eyes
- Chill out man, I used to have a Honda R6 when I was younger
- Erm, riiiight... and did your Honda R6 have a one-off custom throttle on the left hand side??
Confused

You mean we're riding on bikes that dont exist? I have(nt) got one of these too!

On a side note. The OP is believable. Sure I was caught by the police doing 150 on my Lifan 125. In fact they only caught me because my bike had to slow down because I had reached the top of the cliff I was riding up at the time. Laughing

Sometimes you think they waffle because they are trying to impress, like we need impressed. Sometimes you wonder where they get the stuff from. But mostly it seems they are wannabe bikers who make it up as they go along.

There was this guy at the pub, lad who went to my secondary school... Knew I rode, so wanted to look cool so asked what I rode.

Me: "FireBlade... the 929".
Him: "Is that the 600?"
Me "Clue's in the name, it's a 9-hunner"
Him: "Yeah I used to ride before I got pulled... It was an Apriller RS-Mille - I had it up to 180, it was tuned by "demon-tweeks!"

Blatantly chatting out of his ring piece so I asked him more questions.

Me: "What year, R or Factory? or Base model? What mods did you have? Take it down to southerncross for fettling for the back end and get it on the dyno? What did you think of the ohlins if you had em? Ya junk the large end can? How do you like the V-twin characteristics?

Him: "errrrrr.... (could tell by now he was a douche), it has a power band fitted and I've got a race can aaaarrrr something!" DOH!!!! so that was instant fail... but wanted to see how deep he could dig himself!

So I just walked away ensuring he kept his dignity! Well props for trying! At least he didn't try to say he had an RS125 that did 125mph, otherwise I would have bitchslapped him! Even the guy at the burger van opposite my work who used to have one would admit that it ONLY did 100 on the speedo with his carbs, pipes and jets mods.

The stock R7 made similar power to an R6 of the time from what I remember, as it was intended to be tuned.
However, there are quite a lot of R71s - R1 engines in R7s.

But then, the GSXR750 is often described as 'like a 1000cc engine in a 600 chassis, so it's not that uncommon a description.

I like to keep them digging, then show them up.

I had a guy tell me his car is quicker from 0 - 60 than my bandit.

I did arrange a race, he didn't turn up. Shame as I was looking forward to pissing all over his civic type r.

Next time in the pub I mentioned this and he still claims his car is faster.

Poor deluded fool.

I understand people telling false stories deserves a slagging, but when people ask a stupid question some should realise its not a stupid question if you don't know the answer.

To a non biker 929 could well sound like the model, as in cars..... Mondeo, 1.8/2.0 engine sizes etc.

So a person who knows nothing about bikes really may well just hear CBR when when you say CBR929.

Sounds daft yes, but not to those who dont know.

I find it strange that there have been 19 replies in this thread and that Warped's name has not yet cropped up.

Sounds like he had a restricted Firebird. I had a full power one and it used to do 330mph and could return 95mpg of LPG no matter how hard you rode. Not many people have them because they're only available as beta models at present.

You're legally allowed to go as fast as you like on a Firebird because it's part of a government sponsored project to develop an monstrously powerful yet eco friendly engine design. I used to cruise at a comfortable 260mph on the M2 and the police always gave me a friendly wave as I passed by.

Was actually sold with one bank of injectors not working. They sold it with 100 odd bhp so it could be sold to the french with no fettling at all.

Unfortunately you needed the race ECU to get the second bank of injectors working.

Anyway, to be fair, at least one firebird would definitely hit that speed Wink.
