Do you mean the balancer shaft in the engine? If so - then no. The engine would probably vibrate itself apart in 5 minutes.

mine runs off a chain and has 2 weights either side of the engine could be easily disabled

just a random idea, didn't say it was a good idea , but the kx and quite a few other bikes dont have em

Probably possible, and almost certainly has been done. However expect parts of the bike to fail from the vibration, and ring your dentist now to book in for the replacement of your fillings.

A lot of the more 'race orientated' supermoto engines run without a balancer and I know it is common practice to remove them from a 250 superdream to gain about another 5bhp.

I'm not saying it is a good idea though.

i was thinking as it only really revs from about 2k to 5k, and thats if i am getting a bit excitable?

compared to 2 smoke, and eg the 4 stroke singles that produce high bhp figure they rev a hell of a lot more

no i dont think so. they were put theree for a reason and that reaon is to stop the engine falling to bits around you.

Years ago I had a KMX and its balancer shaft gave up on me.
To say the least it was painfully, the vibration in the foot pegs and through the bars was so much it made it hard to ride.
They are certainly there for a reason, personally I wouldn't touch it.

Maybe rather than removing it completely you could drill parts out of it...

Make it a bit lighter but not completely erradicate its balancing effect.

What tool do you need?

I ran my cagiva with the balancer 180 degrees out of phase (mis translated manuals!) and it wasn't too nice...

Leave it in or risk cracking cases or mashing bearings. Some big singles don't have them, such as some LC4's, but they are designed to not have them and the crank is more balanced.

An idea could be to look at KLX engines and see what they run.
