Bike gubbed again - Please help. :(

Right well I spent the day taking the thing to bits. Checked everything was in working order and even changed the sparkplugs. No problems I can see.

However the bike has run out of battery since trying to get it started so many times. It eventually did bump start downhill in my street after many failed attempts.

I got out of the estate and up to the back roads where it gradually slowed down more and more till it stopped. Then it wouldn't bump start at all. Even with passers by helping me. Even tried starting it from jump leads from a car. It was just making strange noises. Since it did actually bump start after great difficulty, then died while I was still moving I'm not convinced it's the battery's fault.

The next step I am going to try is replacing the fuel as this worked for my NSR when it was like this. The fuel is only 1 or 2 weeks old though. But before I did refuel last time it was acting really funny and was seriously down on power. Then when I refueled it seemed to fix it and all was fine again. Now it's even worse than before.

If any ideas spring to mind, please share them as I'm just back from a lengthy push of the bike home. My head hurts now too.

dont rule out the battery yet. if the battery wont charge then it wont give a good enough spark meaning less and less power untill eventualy no spark at all. unless on this bike it can run from the engine alone. i dont know but on mine it runs off the battery whatever. could be the altinator or the battery may just be knackerd.
mind you i dont know about the funny noises.
anyone else got an idea???? Wink

Reg/rec seems to be a weakness in 400s (Hondas particularly, I'm told). If the battery won't hold a charge, it's probably gubbed. If it won't charge up, even when you're running the bike, then the reg/rec could be gubbed, in which case it may have knackered your battery!

I really don't think the battery is the problem. It's only flat because of trying to start the bike so much. I've hardly had the bike going long enough for it to charge at all. My mate has the charger at his house as well so I can't try charging it up at the moment. Will have to get it back tomorrow.

If you've got a multimeter or can get a loan of one, you can test it to see if it's working. Sounds like you might want to do that!
