is my bike an import?

Hi all,
I have a 97 kawasaki ZZR600, I think it is an import, couple of reasons.
1. The speedo is mph but the mileometer counts up in kilometers
2. I have not seen one with the same colour scheme, other than whats on the front cover of the haynes manual.
3. A lot of 600 zzr's have two exhausts, I only have one.

Can anyone tell me what model it is, as there seem to be d's and e's etc.
I think its an E

If it is an import what problems will that cause me?

Hi

The speedo suggests it is an import. Colour scheme is possible as well, but Kawasaki used plenty of them so not uncommon to not see others with the same colour scheme.

However the exhaust sounds more like an aftermarket system (not unusual , the stock 4>2 systems rot quickly).

Probably an E model at that age.

If you phone a local dealer and give them the VIN / frame number they will be able to check if it is an import.

My Thundercat is exactly the same; speedo in mph but odometer in km, in a colour scheme not sold in the UK. It is from Germany; the original owner bought it there when he lived there, then brought it back to the uk when he moved home. He replaced the speedo face and headlight with uk spec ones.

As far as insurers go it is a parallel-import, uk-spec bike - never had a problem. There are a couple of tell-tales; there's a sticker on the tank in German and an extra fuel filler neck drain tube that is specific to Germany.

If there's a ZZ-R owners group they might be able to help, or as suggested, contact a dealer.

Surely the V5 will say if it's an import. I know the one for my Bros does...

If it were a 2nd hand import then yes the V5 will say it. But if it were new when imported then no different to any other officially imported new bike.

There are often a few signs on a V5 that a vehicle is imported. For example, if it just says "Kawasaki" without a model, then it is probably an import. Or if the engine number or emissions information are missing, it's the same case.
