When cleaning your bike, how vain are you?

Me first, I'm not happy until every last little bit is gleaming, I got a mark on the tank, about 5mm long, so I cleaned the whole bike.

Pretty bad I know, but how about you?

There is a man called craig. After you see his bikes and cleaning routine, you suddenly realise your bike is a filthy heap of shit and always will be. I think i stopped cleaning things shortly after i read one of his threads.

When I first read one of craig's threads it inspired me to do a deep clean of my bike. When I was done it was fairly clean, but still not a patch on anything he normally achieves. I then too gave up on beautification cleaning. Now my bike gets a quick sponge down once every few weeks.

The ER6, gets a very hot bucket of water and pressure washer once a week, when I do the car.

My z750 which is my summer weekends toy, gets washed after every ride, with a hot bucket of water. Even though the bike has done something like 16K, it looks mint, no rust, no marks, down pipes look awesome. Was chatting to a bloke in Tescos car park last year and he just couldn't believe the condition of the bike.

If you want to keep your bike looking mint you've got to put in the effort.

If the weather is nice I get the idea in my head that I should clean my bike, so get out the bucket and sponge and get going. After about 10 minutes I realise that I should be out in the nice weather rather than washing it, so give it a quick bucket of water over it to wash off all the suds. This happens about every other month.

Although being an NC30 with the huge white wheels I do give them a sponge over every week or two

I used to powerwash and lubricate my bikes everytime that I returned from an outing. After being abused and accused of being gay by fellow bikers, I toned down my OCD.
I now have a dirty bike with a rusty chain that requires some tlc Sad

I clean quite alot, about 2-3 hours each weekend usually and more in winter (apart from this winter where I couldn't be arsed and it was too cold to clean anyway... I'm paying for that now though Sad).

I do like shiny bikes anyway but more so, it's just part of regular maintence to me and helps to make proper maintenance much easier as there will be fewer siezed/rusted bolts, less muck etc. The effort pays off too as less stuff seems to break.

I've got a crate full of regular cleaning/polishing stuff and a drawer with more serious polishing mops and the like in.

No point in cleaning bikes, I wear the bits out faster than they can decay to nothing.

I wash my bike about every 6 months if i can be bothered, and thats usually just a fairing wipe down.

The chain side of the swingarm usually gets a parafin soaked rag over it when i do my chain maintenance, the exhaust side though is filthy Laughing
