hey, i'm also new to this,
and i am currently riding a yamaha jog rr, they are brilliant bikes for a 50cc very reliable if restricted, my one is deristricted with a sports pipe on and got 50mph out of it but the reliability is not as good as it was.
i advise any of these make/models;
yamaha jog r/rr
yamaha neos
yamaha aerox < probably the best one
piaggio zip
speedfighter 2
basicly get one which is from a big name like yamaha ect...
dont get a chinease one or a sym, they normally fail
hope this helps ____________________ cclarke |

okay, well i got mine second hand for £800 2008 with 4000 miles, you can easily get one for £500 or so with a bit more miles and a year or two older.
first thing is before buying a bike take it for a test ride check all the electrics are working and that the brakes work sharp, but also make sure it is not bogging down because it will become a problem in a later date. (if you never rode a motorbike before i know it may be daunting the first time but a ped is easy to use)
also i always take a peak under the bike to make sure it hasn't had some dodgy repairs or any major damage.
and just keep in mind the insurance prices will be a few hundred ____________________ cclarke |

well i looked on ebay a lot and its very good but i got my bike from the friday ad, and pistonheads is a good site to look at.
oh i forgot to mention anybike with a sports exhaust on or anything like that just bare in mind its been tampered with probably by someone who doesn't know what they are doing so the reliabilty is unquestionable
good luck with getting a bike, let me know how it goes when you get one ____________________ cclarke |

The yamaha jog is a nifty looking scooter, and looks fun as f00k. ____________________ Vlogging - www.youtube.com/caprio85

yeah they are good bikes, but isn't the rs 50 geared? to be honest i dont understand why you would want a geared 50cc bike its a bit pointless really, however i know the rs 50 is probably the fastest road 50cc bike out there ____________________ cclarke |

ok, well 2 stroke is not as bad as it sounds, its better performance and just as reliable as a 4 stroke if you use good oil, to be honest for a ped it dont really matter, 4 stroke is the better option if you want to save a bit of money ____________________ cclarke |

Here's a tip. Just because you have £750 burning a hole in your pocket doesn't mean you should spend every last penny of it on a 50.
I bought my Suzuki AY50 off ebay for only £300.
If you're serious about possibly going on to do your full test e.t.c, then you should spend as little as you possibly can on your 50cc scooter.
If you're only buying one as a means of transport till you get a car, then blow all your cash on one and all the aftermarket crap that goes with it.
Remember to take into account all the other expenses: CBT, Provisional license, insurance and gear. (unless you're the stereotypical ped boi).
As for buying tips, go for the reliable manufactures (Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Aprillia, Piaggio, Peugeot)
Just remember to avoid anything Chinese.
Btw Sym aren't that bad. Not as good as the Japanese brands, but better than the Chinese crap.
Here's a link for what to look out for when buying second hand.

| speng wrote: | Yes. It does seem like a good bike with ok reviews but if it only does 30mph |
If you are 16, then you can only have a license to ride a "moped". That's up to 50cc and with a maximum "design speed" of 30mph or 50kph (depending on which statute or C&U reg you read). Whether it's a twist-and-go scooter or a geared ped is not relevant.
Anything that claims a speed of more than 30mph/50kph is a motorcycle, not a moped. At 16, you'd be riding it without a valid license and therefore without insurance. Your insurer will pay out to 3rd parties, but then they'll come after you to recover their money.
Personally I think restricting peds to 30mph is dangerous, since it means you'll usually be holding up traffic, but it's the law, and some police forces do run pedboi sweeps to check performance.
It's entirely up to you what to do. A lot of moped licensees mod their bikes to increase performance, and good luck to 'em, says I. Just be aware of the potential consequences of riding unlicensed and uninsured, and make an informed decision. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

yeah, what rogerbourg was saying is true and i agree, i am young and i am riding a derestricted 50cc, but in my area there are a lot of one way roads i need to pull out on and to get to college and work, i got to go on a duel carriage way and things like that.
i derestricted it when i realised how dangerous going at slow speed can be, especially when most the cars around me are boy racers they always put me on the edgy side
and there is nothing wrong with people your age riding peds, i see them all the time i spoken to a few people roughly your age riding them and they are all really nice ____________________ cclarke |

yeah a 125 scooter will be safer from car drivers, and i'm sorry i cant help i only know 50cc bikes and 125cc sport bikes but i dont know a lot about 125 scooters, but i suspect same principles apply, so 4stroke, stick to the main producers, dont get a chinese bike or anything like that ect......
maybe someone else can suggest a few bikes, i cant help you on this really anymore, but good luck on your CBT and buying a scooter mate ____________________ cclarke |

After helping my friend look for a scooter, Honda Dylans seem to return good MPG, have loads for sale, and hold their value pretty well. The dealer said cynus etc.. Harder to sell and more expensive, but better, but Dylan's, they may Have some in bad shaoe cosmetically, but people love to use them to commute with. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |
