So my neighbours brother in law is always visiting them. Whenever the bike's outside he wanders over for a chat. He's an affable enough type of bloke, and said a while back he was thinking about getting a bike. Apparently he passed his test a long time ago, and asked advice as he "isn't a speed freak sportsbike type" like me??? (speed triple ??)

So, he said money wasn't a problem for him now, I suggested something smallish, SV650, Versys, small Beemer or the like, till he got used to two wheels again.

Then last week he turned up, on a Harley.

He's bought all the kit too, jacket with tassles, the lot. Now I've no axe to grind there, each to their own and all that, but he came over, said he was glad he caught me, could I have a look at his bike for him??
Why?
"it's vibrating a bit"
really?
"yes, what could be causing it?"

Should I,

a, sit the lad down, get him a beer, explain things to him.

b, set the dogs on him.

cool story.

Don't let the neighbourhood watch see that parked outside your gaff

It's time for a few pints of lager and a man chat. Neutral

Death is the only solution. Kill him with a shovel then place him on his bike and push it off cliff.

Either that or just laugh inside every time you see him.

Good thinking, he'll have less chance of escape after a few beers, and I wont feel as guilty if I'm pissed too.

Tell him the tassels make it vibrate.
Then cut them off for him.
Don't offer.
Just cut.

+1

It's a shame really, he's spent all that money before really asking for advice. I've got nothing against the harley lot, some are 'ok', others are fucktards, but that goes for all walks.

It's difficult, how can you say you spent your money on an engine designed to loose more power than it generates through wasted heat, excess vibration and noise?

Explain to him that he should have spoken to you before buying it. Ask him if he would buy a new car with an engine from a morris minor in it, then point out that his harley uses a push rod engine, which is technology that went out with the morris minor.

If he looks suitably embarassed and promises to sell it and buy something better for half the price, congratulate him on his decision.

If he insists that he knows Harleys are great bikes, just tell him how to get in touch with his local harley owners club and tell him to pretend he does not know you in future.

I'd move away or sell your bike. If you dont do one or the other he'll be at your door every sunday asking if you want to go for a ride.

Only thing worse than owning a Harley is being caught riding beside one. Laughing
