So I had a lowsider...

Don't know what caused it... maybe my lean angle was too steep.

Just felt the thing slip from under me, it's only a TZR with 100/90s on the back (cougar economy tyres too). Chain was off when I picked myself up, not sure if this was before or after though.

Won't be leaning like that again!!!

Only damage to bike is scrape on handlebars and gear selector, though I've got a bit of a scrape on my knee... last time I wear jeans lol, even if I'm only nipping to the shop (as I was).

If the chain was off chances are it was far too slack, it may have jumped off and caused the crash did it go from the front or the back, normally lowsides you lose the front first. Don't buy shit tyres, especially if you want to try to ride the bike fast. The best money you can spend to improve performance on your bike is a decent set of rubber.

Yeah the chain had just started (that day) rattling against the swingarm, which is when I usually tighten it, but didn't have my tools with me.

Think I'll just take it easy around the corners from now on... the money spent on some new tyres will be better spent on my DAS, I reckon.

Not sure which tyre went first, I was doing about 25 (corner is quite sharp) and I just remember feeling like I'm leant quite far, then it just went.

Haha the only thing my TZR is legendary for is being shit. In all fairness it's a nippy little bike and (before now) seemed to handle pretty well.

Fatter rear tyres seem to make a difference, I rode my gf's NSR and they're only 120s but the thing just felt so much more stable.

If you are waiting till the chain rattles the swingarm you are waiting too long. I would put money on that is what caused the crash, keep at better eye on your chain.

Changing the tyre width will likely fuck up the handling.

Yamaha spent lots of money developing these little bikes to be pocket rockets, quick little bikes with decent handing, if a fatter tyre would have improved it it they would have fitted one as standard. Fitting a bigger tyre will make it turn much lazier than standard.

What would be better than fitting a big tyre is buying a decent tyres not budget plastic tyres.

By a fatter rear tyre I was meaning a bigger bike (once I can afford my DAS!) for now I'll just leave it as is and ride it slower. I saw a TZR with a 110 on the back and the chain was chewing it up, I wouldn't fancy that!

I wanted a set of Pirellis (like it had when I bought it) but they didn't do a matching pair for the 90/90 16 front and 100/90 18 back.

I'm assuming you had trackies/jeans on? I also assume you've have gear on next time?

Sounds like poor (read: Shit) bike maintenence caused you to crash, take care of it!

I had jeans on, cut straight through them, then again I didn't really expect any different.

Wearing my synthetics now, I don't usually wear them unless I'm going for a ride out or anywhere far... I think I will from now on! Is the brown patch on my knee burnt skin? It smells unpleasant.

You fell in dog shit Thumbs Up .

It does sound like the chain could have contributed to your crash mate, you really need to keep on top of that. A few quid spent getting some tools will save you mucho money on bike repairs, not to mention it could save your life. If you need to adjsut it regularly then it is knackered and needs to be replaced or you are not lubing it regularly, causing premature wear.

How old is the chain and sprocket set? You have hooked teeth on the sprocket? Chain towards the end of the wear markers?

Unfortunately there are no markers on this bike... it's a pain in the arse because you can't see the notches either for wheel alignment, suppose that could have been a potential problem from when I tightened and lubed the chain last ( 2 weeks ago).

The chain and sprockets are about... 5 months old I'd say.

No centre stand either for when I'm lubing up the chain, bloody thing.

You don't need markers to tighten chain, ensure you tighten each side equal amounts and alignment won't change.
