I used to have the ZX10R, hell of a powerful machine but just goes to show if you don't have the straight the SM can own you.

Looks like the only place the ZX10R is could get the opportunity to overtake was the straight as the KTM (single if am right) was pulling away on the corners, i went from from a ZX10R to a SM and love both bikes, i liked this video as it shows top end is not everything. ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

Do you think that the 10r would have left actually been faster if the SM was not in the way though? ____________________ Hit the G spot. |

Am not 100% the SM seemed to be a fair bit faster out of the bends that the ZX10r nearer the end. ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

nope thats an illusion. the sm starts accelerating a second before the zx, but in actual fact they both start to get on the power at the same point.
both competent riders, and the only way to get past would be to stuff him up on the brakes which is a bit rude for a track day, or carry more corner speed on a different line and take him on the exit of the corner, the zx rider doesn't have enough skill to carry the extra speed or brake later than the sm.
What we are seeing there one rider on a lighter bike that can tip in quicker and be later on the brakes, compared to a worse rider on the zx whos bike could piss all over the sm but hes too shit to do so.
But yes the sm is quicker to turn in and can brake later, but ride a zx10 properly and the extra corner speed and power will piss all over an sm. You should compare it to a sports 6 though, 6's and 1000's have completely different methods of going fast round a track, and require very different riding styles and methods of taking corners. ____________________ follow my racing season

Silly video to compare. It's all down to the rider, you could be the fastest person on this forum on a well sorted 1000cc Sportsbike on your favourite track and still have Bradley Smith on his old 125 come flying past you.
Only way to compare bikes is to have a decent rider, ride both and compare the laptimes. The faster bike will most likely always be faster, but on tight twisty tracks with little straights between corners smaller bikes have less of an disadvantage.
Also the ZX10R rider wasn't all that great, on the 2nd lap when he caught the SM you can see him diving into most corners and missing apex's. ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |
