Age: 44 (but looks about 29)
Current Bike: 2003 R6
Issue: Bad back ... During the ride I have no pain .. so in theory I can continue riding the bike ... but I have started to suffer the next day etc. (I get no such issues when riding the offroad bike).
Want: Something that still looks good/ sporty if possible.... but is much kinder on my back.
Dont Want: Harley / Goldwing / Full on tourer
I have a genuine reason for asking here ... rather than going out and trying loads of bikes (which I will also be doing).
Because I have no pain or discomfort when actually riding ... I cant sit on another bike and go "oh yeah, thats far too painful etc".
I only get the pain the next day.
So just wondering if anyone has any experience of moving from a sports bike to say a Street Triple.. or Hornet .etc.
Also, of the more upright bikes .. which is the best handling / fun etc. ?
Much appreciated. ____________________ There's nothing that shouts "Poor Workmanship" more than wrinkles in the Gaffa tape.

Well the obvious suggestion would be the later r6 engined fazers.
However, I'd suggest convertibars instead. You'd fit them to your current bike.
You fit them to your existing bike and can invent your own handlebar position, much better than normal bar raisers.
I've got some but have been too lazy to fit them.
You can adjust the position of the bars before each ride with an allen key.
You may need a longer brake cable though.

KTM 990?
I went from a Kawasaki ZX10R a KTM 990SM, V-Twin so lots of low down usable power. The one thing to take into account is the lack of screen, you can get one as the wind blast over 3 digits can be enough to make you feel like your head is going to snap off. The best description i can give the 990sm is a bicycle with a engine stuck in, its very light and flick able.

I suppose it depends on your back really. I thought I'd be on the sv forever...but that got to a stage when it hurt. So I had bar risers fitted, but no, still mucho pain.
I have been looking at the TDM / Fazers / Triumph Tiger etc. but for me, because of my left side weakness, I have decided it will be the Kwak Versys... it's narrow (for a start), and light (650 parallel twin engine) and yet properly upright. (though quite tall, you have a shorter leg)...I suggest you have a look at the Tiger 1050. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I was called a mature gentleman today. Felt very odd as I still think of myself as a big kid. ____________________ Famous last words of Humpty Dumpty. " Stop pushing me "

Defo a Fazer thou or 6.
I'd go for the thou. More bike for your money and they are going for peanuts atm.
Street or speed triple depending on what size engine you want. If you're happy with the power of the 6 then go fo the street triple, but if not go for the speed.
Been told that the Speed is to much for the road though. Never ridden either so can't comment . ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

Do NOT get a Superduke - It will be too much of a bike for you, you ride like an elderly lady, the superduke is for mentalists. Best bike I ever owned but more of a racehorse than the shire horse that you require

My last bike was a Kwak 636 B1 and that was well known for it's lack of comfort !
I'm not too far behind you age wise Silky and wanted something fast and comfortable so I got a Triumph Sprint ST.
I feel it has a decent compromise between full on sports and sit up, plus you've got all the wind protection too. ____________________ the undemocratically unelected mod of the Scottish section |

The R6 is more than enough power for me .... maybe a little more bottom end grunt would be nice.
Surely the Street Triple is perfect ?
How bad is it regards wind blast ? I rarely / never tuck behind my screen ... would I notice that much below 120 mph ?
Is the street triple more relaxed and upright than the 03 R6 ?
He looks nice and upright.
