That is the coolest paint diagram I've seen for ages. If only for the fact that it has a little picture of Kawashima saying "Gyaaaaaaa!" Laughing

That could easily become an internet meme. Laughing

Back on topic for a minute... I think the trick with that Kawashima is to NEVER assume that another road user is going to do something unless it is to assume that they will always do the stupidest thing possible, and probably the thing most likely to cause you problems!

Thanks! I dropped W650 twice when I was surprised to see the car didn't turn to me and go straight with direction indicator flashing.
(He must be turning right somewhere else)
I have been thinking myself very safe rider but I am not good at this situation. I need to train my brain not to think like that in this situation. "They will always do the stupidest thing possible" is a very helpful one to remember.

I was following a car that had had forgot to cancel his left indicator. I flashed my lights to try and make him notice but it's no use and he just carries on.

We are now coming up to a junction on our left where there's a car waiting at the junction who wants to turn right. See where this is going?

I start to brake to put some space between me and the car in front - just in case. Anyway, the fella at the junction pulls out, king of the indicators in front does an emergency stop and gives it a fist full out the window at the car that's pulled out and carries on with his left hand indicator still switched on!

We came up to traffic, I filtered past and screamed through his open window that he'd got his fvucking indi swiched on. I never bothered looking back but I suspect that either the relay or the bulb died before he switched it off.

I had a nob job pull out on me on a NSL road...
He certainly saw me, broad daylight, the car infront whooshed past him so he must have had a clue at the traffic speed....

That car goes by, he creeps further and pulls out leaving me with my arse in the air grabbing a fist full of front brake (traffic in other lane, couldnt swerve...).

Got to within a foot of the c*nt who had floored his 1.F*ck All heap of crap...

So why didnt he pull out infront of the other car?

Figure a biker berried in his windscreen was safer than a ton of car....

Really could have assaulted that pr*ck. Some teenage tw*t with a chick in the car...

Scary though as its not a wide road either with space between the carridgeways...

But yes, back on topic...

NEVER Assume a car is going to do ANYTHING within reason (it may just stop after manovering into that parking space though...)! Let them pass and always wait for a gap big enough for you to accelerate into safely. Indicators really do mean bugger all these days.

Just started my DAS and am paranoid aboooot everyone!

Best regards

-Jvr

Ps,
Eppic ms paint job! + Karma for that!

Yup!

Ignore them completely... In the case above... Just watch the car and and let it's actions dictate your actions, if it's indicating to pull off, ignore them, wait until it actually starts to pull off before you pull out.

It's awful on the roudabouts round here... Ever seen a car come up to a roundabout in the left hand lane and indicate left, only to watch them go all the way round to the third exit? I have... More than once. Or what about those who indicate to come off the roundabout at your exit but have just indicated early for the next exit? Happens all the bloody time here so I just consider everything on the roundabouts to be on the roundabout and not coming off... Then gun it if they do pull off or if there's a big enough gap.

It doesn't take long to figure out not to trust indicators over here, especially with roundabouts.

It drives me absolutely mental when people going straight on at roundabouts don't indicate to the left so it means I have to stop because they could be going all the way round.

I saved my mates car one night because of indicating at roundabouts. I guess as bikers we realise not to trust peoples indicators pretty quickly or else we end up crashing.

My mate had just passed and a taxi driver was on the roundabout without his indicator on. He was in lane 2 and because he didn't have his indicator on my mate assumed he was going straight on. I scoped it and knew what was going to happen and started shouting no repeatedly. I was too steaming to react or grab the wheel or anything but he managed to miss the car anyway.

He's still not crashed so I guess he learned.

I think maybe Japanese drivers must be good at indicating and this is why you are having this problem. If everyone can't indicate properly then you can assume them useless and as a result you aren't going to trust them.

Somebody remind my of the Country where it is normal practice for car drivers to indicate to bikes that it's ok to overtake.

I watch the front wheels - the car has to go where they are pointing but it doesn't have to go where the indicators are pointing.

Guy indicated to turn left into a side road that my mum was pulling out of in her car, she goes to pull out, he continues straight on and hits here.

Insurance went 60/40 his way, and he put a claim in for whiplash Rolling Eyes

The BikeSafe cops keep telling us that all an indicator means is that the bulb is working.

Let's hope you won't have any more Gyaaaaaa moments!

My tip for survival is never look at the driver. Only at the car. Lot of people see a driver look at them and assume they won't pull out. Bad move.

I've always been taught that's the correct way to indicate on roundabouts..?

First exit, outside lane (or as marked), indicate left. Second exit (straight on), outside lane (or as marked) no indication, then indicate left after passing first exit. Third exit++ inside lane (or as marked), indicate right, then indicate left and move out (when safe) as you approach your turn off.

Not really, she shouldn't have pulled out... pretty much one of the first things you learn when learning to drive is not to trust indicators or people flashing you out etc.

The only thing a Side repeater indicates is that the bulb is working.

That is something I've learn t over the years of riding among the other cunts on the road.
