Which and for why. Personally I'm leaning towards the MR2.
Better looks, and more powah, but the MX5 can't have such a cult following for no reason. ____________________ My Flickr

Depends if you're a devilishly stylish chap such as myself.
I won't be seen out without my Prada handbag and GHD's.

it depends on which model mr2, turbo, or just injected
if non turbo, then i would go for the mx5 1800 with the 6 speed,
the mrs has the 1600, and while it handles as good as ive ever experienced in a car,
the lack horseys let it down a bit, the extra 200cc makes all the difference, pretty cheap to run as well,
the only down side is the lack of space ____________________ the humans are dead

Woah there son, I don't drive an MX5 I just bang on about them constantly as I think they're brilliant.
I drive a rolling slab of chavvy testosterone that only men would ever like although I'm planning on getting an MX5 for the missus shortly.
Well, I say it's for the missus....really it's for me to do trackdays in but that's not what I'm telling her. |

it's the 2000-2006 model I'm looking at, rather than the wedgey version. (So I guess that's technically speaking the Mk 3 MR2.

I think the chaps at the salon call that one the mk 2.5.
EDIT: Misread that...you're talking MR2s aren't you (the mk 2.5 MX5 also had vvt or something similar).
In fact I thought you were talking about mk2 MR2s for the whole thread...scratch my advice then, I've never driven a MK3 MR2 so have no idea how they compare to MX5s |

if thats the case, then mx5,
if i was just a wee bit shorter, i'd have one in a heart beat,
they are so easy to work on as the car was initally designed to fit a v8
so the il4 just floats about in there,
there are loads of upgrades to both the engine and handling
if you can, try and get a hard top (it just goes over the soft top)
but it makes a big difference in winter
people who call them hairdressers cars are just trying to cover up the fact that they want a thrash in it, and are homosexuals themselves
having driven both mx5s and most variants of the mr2
in all but power and space the mx5 is the better car, ____________________ the humans are dead

MX5 without a doubt.
That said, the MR2 is a good little drive.
Dads fiancee is the editor of Hard Top Soft Top MX5 club mag, so i'll be biased, but they are really fantastic cars to drive as long as you haven't got over a 500m straight
I'd either have a very early one, or one of the latest ones. The ones in the middle we're all fatter and more powerful, but didn't have the directness of the early models (which is the appeal of the car in the first place). Mazda lost their way a little, but have regained it with the most recent version.
Dads financess got number 1 of 300 of a very special edition. Fully loaded, bose stereo, nappa leather all round, LSD, 170bhp 2.0 engine, roll bars, heated seats etc.. Basically every option available. I really want it for a work car |

You'd probably fit in the mk3 mx5 okay, it's a bit bigger. I mean, I can actually move my elbow without hitting the door right away. |
