importing motorcycles

hi

a bike dealer from germany has been in touch with my mate about buying his bike. the bloke comes over buys 6 bikes and goes back home and registers them.

yesterday he came and bought my mates bike and saw mine. he asked if i wanted to sell it and i said yes.

the problem is that on my mates 2008 cbr there is a 'e' on the chassis number wich apparently you need to register the bikes in germany. my 2000 zx6r doesnt have this but on the frame near the chassis plate there is a black sticker with 'e' on it. im assuming that the only reason for this is my bike was made before a change in the law or something?

neither of us knew if this was ok so he said he would ring home and try to find out and i said id try to find out. he has gone up to scotland for a bike today and will be passing back by mine tomorrow night so please try to help me out

It sounds like he's dodging VAT in Germany.

Bit of scam, if you ask me - I'd be careful with it...

he says its cheaper to buy them over here and take them back and register them. dont see what i need to be careful of? if he gives me the money and takes the bike, its nothing to do with me what he does with it.

c-m, i agree i dont think its dodgy. i dont suppose you know weather you can register my bike in germany do you? its a 2000zx6r as stated but the bloke said he didnt know?
