PostPosted: 11:24 - 24 Mar 2011    Post subject: Help these 5 guys Reply with quote

This Group is to support the 5 Bikers who are being charged for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving of one of their fellow biker mates and his pillion whilst out for a summers evening ride. –Last August these guys were out with Dean Slater who had his wife Helen on the back of his R1 – Sadly Dean was in a collision with a car which killed him and his wife instantly. The Riders out with him are now being charged for causing their deaths by dangerous driving/riding. I’m not saying that these guys shouldn’t be dealt with for speeding or any other driving offence which are relevant - i.e. I believe one of them had no insurance, but what I am saying is HOW can these guys be responsible for the unfortunate death of Dean and Helen – Dean’s bike hit a car not either of these guys. Only one person can control a bike, only one person’s hand was on that throttle and that wasn’t any of these guys that the police are charging - it was Dean – This should be put down to a tragic accident which the survivors of the day will never forget – why are they being treated like murderers by North Yorkshire Police. They are due in Selby Court on 31st March. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dean & Helen’s loved ones and also to the families of the 5 men.

Please show your support by joining this page and get as many people behind these guys as possible – tough times are ahead for them and they will only get through this with your help

Damn disgrace holding other riders responsible. Only one person can control a bike. Sympathies to all concerned.

Is there any photos of the couple involved?

I'm from North Yorkshire so wondered where abouts they were from?

Willco.

There have been too many "X is culpable for Y's decisions" road traffic cases recently. Regardless of whether the 5 accused are guilty of hooning around, the offence is causing death, not contributing to it, not encouraging it, and I can't see how there could be clear causation beyond all reasonable doubt.

I just hope they get a decent defence and the jury sees it that way.

If they caused the car to swerve into the path of dean then they have no defence, do you know how it happened.
No one has to follow a group out of pier pressure, so that wont hold up in court if thats all they are suggesting!!!

taken from the local rag......

"FIVE men have been charged with causing a crash which killed a husband and wife on a North Yorkshire road.

Dean Slater, 40, and his solicitor wife Helen, 37, from Bradford, died when their motorbike was hit on the A162 between Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet on August 25 last year.

Three men from Bradford, aged 31, 29 and 26, and a 28-year-old man from Bingley have each been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, while a 36-year-old man from Keighley faces the same charges and two counts of causing death by dangerous driving while uninsured.

They have been released on bail and will appear before magistrates in Selby on March 31. "

It seems that the police weren't convinced this was just an unfortunate accident and were pushing to get witness statements from people at the scene including a couple of joggers who were there at the time of the accident.

The bikes weren't in all together in a tight group. No way they could all be responsible equally IMO.

Apparently according to the police theres no such thing as an Accident.

Nowdays they tend to steer away from using RTA to RTC or RTI

For another perspective, I was at a BikeSafe course today and the bike copper pointed out that appeals for information about bike accidents do tend to produce results, as people remember (and, I infer, like to have a moan about) being overtaken by bikes giving it beans.

So it's possible that in this case the police and CPS have put together a picture of the whole group hooning around over a significant time and distance and are prosecuting based on that evidence.

Note carefully: this is not my perspective! I think causing death by dangerous driving (riding) is not a suitable charge, and nor did the copper comment on this case. I present this solely as a piece of information.

Now fuck off you pig scum and go whine somewhere else.

Looks like they were trying to blame the whole group for one riders actions...with no proof.....

same as they are trying to blame the lead rider in a group if others in the group are speeding.

Result. No evidence, no case to answer. That's an enormous slap in the sack to the CPS. Thanks for the followup.

It's a shame someone with an ounce of common sense didn't stop this going to court in the first place, what a waste of time and money - sadly common sense seems to be missing in the police hierachy and CPS.

New laws = testing in court... this was a pointless exercise, wasting a lot of time and money!

Not to mention the suffering to the bikers families etc!!!

dean salter, any relation to carl salter?

any way am going to keep an eye on this, i think its stupid how 5 people ar off to court for that offense, as sed there only one person responsible for that bike, the rider,,,, not his mates

like if i pulled a wheely cas some 10 year old shouted as i went past,,, pull a wheely and i crashed,,,,, is it the 10 year old boys fault?
