not a big fan of F1, too much of a procession and not enough overtaking
and too many rules about whats allowed, I seen this new rear wing thing they added
where you need to be within a certain area and under 1 second behind the car you want to overtake
before you can use it, but if the car in front pulls into the pits you can still use it

why not just allow them to use it whenever they want and let see some racing
bit unfair if your in the lead and you can't use this if someone is trying to overtake you
its like asking a Moto GP rider to sit up if he's leading down the straight

just way to many technical rules and reg's that restrict development & racing skill

If they're allowed to use it whenever they want they will all use it out of every corner and completely negate the effect of it. So then you WON'T see some racing.

KERS is a waste of time if everybodies got it. It was fun when Mclaren had it but others didn't as you got to see some action. I'm not sure about the rear wing yet so we shall just have to wait and see.

What i am looking forward to is the new tires being much softer. No more pit on lap 15 then you're done, this time they will be 3 or 4 stopping. Hopefully some of the guys at the back will try running long stints are you'll get a mix of people on different strategies going at different speeds = action.

If it all works, this could be one hell of a season. If not it'll become a waste of time. Moto GP seems to be heading the same way with smaller grid sizes, lack of speed differential.

yeah its not the same these days, hopefully Kawasaki & BMW will get into moto Gp
and get the grid numbers up a bit, but at least with the moto Gp you get a bit of leaning on each other in the corners
and a fair amount of overtaking unlike the F1 where most of the real action is in the pit lane

I used to think f1 was boring with all the rules etc but not I quite like it. If you follow everything around it, put £2 on a race etc, understand all the rules and regs then it is very interesting.

Looking forward to this weekend. Very Happy

MotoGP is now a joke really. Not very many overtakes in the last race as there weren't many bikes. I could have scored points in that race by riding round on a scooter!
With Pedrosa injured for a long while yet, it's basically Stoner Vs Lorenzo, with stoner being the winner. This won't change until they take some influence from Moto2 and make it cheaper and fairer.
At least in F1 any one of 5-6 cars could win this weekend, maybe more if the new regs create some chaos or it rains.

I caught the last 30 mins or so of FP2 this morning, I'm setting the clock for Quali tomorrow before work and I'll be up at silly O'clock on sunday too.

This has the potential to be another bloody great season and I can't wait!

What like, say, introducing production-based 1,000 cc engines? Mr. Green

Martin Brundle made a good point about the pitstops and tyres in F1 last year - they were only stopping to change tyres because they were forced to, not because the tyres were worn out. Make sure any given set of tyres can't last a race distance and then see how they drive to manage the tyres, or how interesting it becomes when they're down to the canvas.

Not sure how the production based system will pan out though. There will still be prototype engines to, which will make more power for the capacity (much more!) but those ones might not be 1000cc due to the fuel limitations. I understand the production based bikes will have different numbers of engines per season etc too. So it's not a direct clone of Moto2, and it's adding more rules, regulations, complexity and possibly creating 2 classes of racing. All of which have been used as arguments for why F1 is crap, so if that's true MotoGP is heading the same way.

Regardless it's all better than a series with a 11/10 favourite and a brit who's there to make the the numbers.

Anybody catch qualifying this morning? Pleased to see Hamilton and Button up there, unless Vettel makes a mistake, I can't see anyone beating him though.

I walked past the bookies yesterday and seriously considered putting a £10 bet on Vettel for pole, fastest lap and race win. Should have done it.

Found qualifying boring apart from the Force india crash when he opened the rear wing flap thing Laughing

I'll watch the replay of the race if it doesn't clash with SBK

Masa got fastest lap, so that would have been money wasted!

KERS: Waste of time
Moveable rear wing: Seemed to work quite well for some people. It's not an overtake button, more of an enhanced slip stream.
New tires: Better, but not soft enough. one stopping shouldn't be possible, 2 stops should be a real struggle.

I thought that was a pretty good start to the year actually.

The trouble with the DRS is that the KERS equipped cars can easilly counter it if the chasing car either doesn't have or deploy it. DC was saying that DRS is worth approx 100bhp and KERS is 80bhp, so suddenly you have a chasing car with just 20 bhp extra.

This is partly what stopped JB getting past Massa, while JB used a big chunk of KERS through the lap to stick to the gearbox of the Ferrari, Massa kept a larger chunk for use out of the last corner and negated the DRS somewhat.

As for the tyres, I think they did work quite well. We had some cars using them better than others and that is what gives us the racing. The fact that only 1 driver could 1 stop was pretty good, you need people on different strategies.

I still think that Perez was the driver of the day, even inspite of his (probably very marginally) illegal rear wing. Petrov was a close second for me though, his was a very mature drive and just what he needed. It's just a shame that we won't see Kubica in that car as I think he would be mixing it right at the sharp end.

That red bull worked well at every track last year, and Vettel seems better than ever. He won that race with plenty to spare. I think that DRS will have a bigger effect at Sepang and china especially, KERS probably too. Red bull say that they have KERS but chose not to run it, which is worrying!
McLaren had a good car but an erratic balance from some fancy new exhaust system that they've ditched. I fully expect it to return in at some point, which could be very interesting Smile

On the flexi wing front, what happened was that most teams though the 10mm flex @ 10kg load meant that this was a linear relationship to 20mm @ 20kg, 50mm @ 50kg.
Red bull built wings with a non linear relationship between load and flex, so theirs flexed 10mm @ 10kg, but say 40mm @ 20kg.
Other teams asked for clarification and a new load test was brought in testing for 20mm @ 20kg.
So now all the wings are required to pass 2 tests, but aren't required to be linear, So they are all now like the red bull ones were at the end of last season, rather than the really flexible ones of part way through last season.

I managed about 10 minutes of the race - i marvelled at the high speed cornering for a while, then boredom of processional 'racing' set in.

This quote from Schumacher made me lol:

Quote:

It is not motorcycle racing, it has always had less overtaking...
