https://www.zerohedge.com/article/follow-londons-biggest-demonstration-decade-300000-protest-austerity-and-public-cuts

Quote:
After leading to the collapse of the Portuguese government, anti-austerity anger is now ramping up at the very heart of the old continent, where the biggest demonstration in over a decade has struck in London. Per the Guardian: "More than a quarter of a million protesters against public sector cuts are expected to flood central London today in the biggest political demonstration for nearly a decade. Police sources, normally cautious about estimating numbers, said last night they were braced for up to 300,000 people to join the march – far higher than previous forecasts from TUC organisers. More than 800 coaches and at least 10 trains have been chartered to bring people to the capital from as far afield as Cornwall and Inverness. The Metropolitan police, under fire for their use of kettling in previous protests, said "a small but significant minority" plan to hijack the march to stage violent attacks. Organisers, however, insist it will be a peaceful family event. Union members are expected be joined by a broad coalition, from pensioners to doctors, families and first-time protesters to football supporters and anarchists. Ed Miliband said the government was dragging the country back to the "rotten" 1980s. Labour is calling today's event the "march of the mainstream"." Some of the protesters, already pigeonholed as "anarchists", have already become unruly as a splinter group has formed on the iconic Oxford street where it is engaged in altercations with the Police, including throwing smoke bombs, lightbulbs filled ammonia.

Discuss. Laughing

I find it quite ironic that people who decided to work in the public sector for job security are now as threatened as everyone else.

Will be particularly ironic if staff at job centres who have looked down on the unemployed face cuts.

The situation at hand could be summarised as follows: Public Unions.

In my very humble opinion, now is the time for a major war, to ship the peasants off the streets. Wink

The BCF anarchists are uncharacteristically quiet this evening.

Herein lies the problem: tomorrow they'll go back to their cosy lives in civilisation.

And? That's how it's always been. It's never going to change.

Who cares if they brand all the protesters anarchists.

They will get more attention to the issue (even if overshadowed with the violence) than a peaceful protest.

I'd rather a few people start up trouble and get things blown out of proportion in the media so it has some attention rather than the officials sitting there thinking.

"Oh no, the kids are outside sitting outside again. Gee, what will we do?"

They need to know they're pissing people off.

Name a country that was 'revolutionised' through peaceful protest.

Not an anarchist, don't call myself anything, did all that shit 20-30 years ago when it was fun, it's all bullshit anyway.

Why target McDonalds, Fortnum and Mason, the Ritz, etc. Pointless. The real top players in the game have families, who are largely unguarded. Far better to have THEM swinging from a lampost by their entrails. Much more fun, and better payback for multitudes of cluster bombs their companies deliver to the defenceless in Gaza and elsewhere. Let's bring that shit back home. That loud enough for you?

Careful, TC, don't give them any proper ideas, which might actually change something (for the better or worse). Very Happy

If there ever was a time and place for a quote from Lord Acton, it is now, "The issue which has swept down the centuries and which will have to be fought sooner or later is the people versus the banks."

Anarchists protesting against the government cutting public services. How ironically stupid. Laughing

You mean like the student protests which were a complete and utter failure?

Redoko wrote:

So they can't get attention to their cause without blowing things out of proportion?

Redoko wrote:

The protest was called the march for the alternative yet they have no proposed alternative. The TUC says public services cuts are unnecessary. The TUC says the countries debt doesn't need to be sorted out. The TUC says lots of very stupid things. Rolling Eyes

Redoko wrote:

What does that have to do with anything? The TUC protest were hundreds of thousands of labourites protesting about their own incompetence and failures. They're not starting a revolution, they just want their public sector jobs to continue being on different grounds to private sector jobs.

The TUC protest was an unnecessary waste of public services and funds at a time when wastefulness cannot be afforded. Rolling Eyes

You know what would be truly radical? If half a million filthy spongers spent the day picking up litter, cleaning graffiti, helping out geezers, filling potholes. You know, actually doing the work that they claim they want.

Be funny when the banks leave and the tax payer has to make up for the billions lost in tax - would be even funnier if the goverment turned around and said they were raising all tax so there didt have to be cuts

News source is wrong, over 400,000 people marched in the 2002 liberty and livelihood against the proposed ban of using dogs for fox hunting. They still banned it so I doubt 300,000 people are going to make them change their mind now

I mean run an officer down in a transit van with Ian Tomlinson’s face on it, with a message that say’s. “We’re not anarchists, we are free people”
Or something inspiring (I’m useless at that kind thing), anything like that would be inspiring with the boots of a pig hanging out the back axle.
A march should turn into a riot, which should turn into a war.
Cameron has his war he wants to win in Libya now, it’ll be decades probably, following in the footsteps of Thatcher, all he’s going to do is send us into a pit of misery and embarrassment.
