hi i just bought a gpz 500s off of ebay but it was jammed up i got it home and had it all apart now ive sorted the problem but im having a ball ache trying to do the timing it never came with a manual and im all new to bikes Smile so im a bit stuck now lol any info or tips would b really helpful thanks

The timing should be automatically controlled by the CDI, you shouldn't need to do a thing with regard to that.

thanks for that info, you wouldnt know what the cam position should be set at when the the crank is t.d.c thats the main problem im havin is gettin all that lined up

A manual would be your friend! A quick google might find you a downloadable one.

If it's like most bikes, there should be be timing marks on the cam sprockets (marked IN and EX for intake and exhaust respectively) that should align with surface of the head when a mark on the crank timing plate is aligned to it's indicator... But I don't know which mark on the plate they have to align to, it sometimes differs from bike to bike.
