 |
|
I have a Peugeot Speedfight 100 Prost, 01 (2000) plate scooter. I attempted to clean my carb, following the instructions from a haynes manual.
Relating to my previous topic ( https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=2808631 ) where my speedfight had problems accelerating past 20mph I decided to clean my carb to see if it fixes the problem.
I'll talk you through each step that I did so you can identify the problem I may have.
1) Remove the rear body panels, disconnecting the rear light connections and boot release key cable.

2) Take off the seat, and remove the boot casing.
https://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3595/img20110310142446.jpg
3) Detach the fuel line and vaccum tubes from the fuel tap.
https://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4619/img20110326175918.jpg
4) Remove the fuel tank, detaching the fuel monitor cable.

5) Take off the air filter casing.
https://img850.imageshack.us/img850/7043/airfiltercase.jpg
6) Remove the rear casing of the air filter.
https://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4966/airfilterrearcase.jpg
7) Remove the air intake pipe.
https://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3094/img20110326130950.jpg
8) Detach the fuel line and oil tubes from the carb.
https://img29.imageshack.us/img29/2497/img20110326175940.jpg
9) Drain the fuel from the carb bowl.
https://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7268/img20110326131030.jpg
10) Remove the throttle cable from the carb.
https://img717.imageshack.us/img717/1885/img20110326131100.jpg
11) Remove the auto choke from the carb.
https://img861.imageshack.us/img861/1836/img20110326131128.jpg
12) Loosen the grips that hold the carb, and removed the carb.
https://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3062/img20110326175951.jpg
13) Unscrew the bowl from the carb and cleaned with petrol.
https://img826.imageshack.us/img826/588/img20110326132228.jpg
14) Remove the main jet.
https://img857.imageshack.us/img857/9155/img20110326132215.jpg
15) I noticed there was some crap in the Main Jet, so I got a needle and poked it through.
https://img845.imageshack.us/img845/7296/mainjet.jpg
16) Reinstalled the Main Jet, and Screwed the Carb Bowl back on.
17) Reattached the Carb to the Grips and fastened them.
18) Reinstalled the Automatic Choke to the carb.
19) I Reinstalled the Throttle cable to the carb and then noticed that the throttle was really loose to turn. There wasn't no friction to it, so I removed the throttle cable from the carb. I then twisted the throttle to see if there was any difference and there was, it felt just how it should be. I have tried many wasys of inserting it back into the carb and it still feels very loose.
20) With the throttle cable installed I had a look inside the carb and noticed the throttle needle was in contact with the main jet, and when I twisted the throttle the needle did not move.
21) I decided to leave it, and reattach the fuel line and oil tubes to the carb.
22) Reinstall the air intake pipe.
23) Reinstall the air filter rear casing, and then install the air filter.
24) Placed the petrol tank back where it sits, and attach the fuel monitor.
25) Reattach the fuel line and oil tubes to the fuel tap.
26) I then went to start up my speedfight and it just wouldn't start. Watch this video to hear how it sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn1MvlO7lAM
27) I then checked to see if everything was correctly connected and it was.
28) I removed the air filter and air intake pipe.
29) I noticed to the right side of the carb I could feel a suction as I attempted to start my speedfight. I then placed my hand over it, and then went to start my speedfight and it started... but one problem it was at FULL revs, it scared the shit out of me haha.
My theory of this whole thing is something to do with the throttle needle. I don't know what to do so I am looking for advice from you wonderful people. Thanks for taking your time to reading this topic, I highly appreciate it. |

you might want to make sure you have refitted the carb to manifold gasket the right way up, if it's upside down you will be sucking in air.
Edit: just realised this is a 100 so doesn't have the bolt on carb so pay no attention to the above ____________________ hellkat wrote:

Haha you had we worried there

Yeah it was pretty clean, there was only a few bits of granuals in the bowl so there werent much to clean.
| Phoenix wrote: | Don't poke needles through jets, they're soft brass, a blast with carb cleaner would likely blow anything out or just soak it in some and use compressed air. |
Do you think I've damaged the main jet then, by poking a needle through it and thats why it isnt starting?
| Phoenix wrote: | As for the fuel, it was probably just an empty float bowl, depends how long you tried to start it for, takes a little while of cranking to fill the fuel line and float bowl back up. |
By cranking, do you mean using the kickstart to put some fuel in there? The thing is my kickstart doesn't work so I what I did was put some fuel in the bowl myself. ____________________ Peugeot Speedfight 2 100 Prost, 01 Plate, 2000 model. |

I have got it working now so it doesnt matter I dunno how I got it working, but the throttle needle casing that slides up and down seemed a bit stiff so i moved it around a bit, then started it up and it worked
And oh I had my kickstart's pinion gear snapped, so I had to replace the whole kickstart mechanism, got a new pinion gear, kickstart quadrant and friction spring. But the thing is that it doesnt spin around when u kick it, it gets jammed... I've taken it out and in many times and it still doesn't fit properly... i may need to get another kit as this one was USELESS. ____________________ Peugeot Speedfight 2 100 Prost, 01 Plate, 2000 model. |
