Is this illegal?

Not specifically illegal, but if the police caught you, I reckon there's a very slim chance you could be done for dangerous driving, driving without due care etc, more likely asked to move on.

Just move between a few roundabouts Wink

i used to do it alot, it's harder than you mighnt think to find a decent size roundabout with a good surface and minimal traffic.

take a little sweeping brush, you'll thank me later Laughing

You're not allowed to lap a roundabout more than 3 times. Knee down, hanging off is generally treated the same as someone in a car drifting. Police will usually argue you're not in control.

I've done it of course, but i wouldn't do it during the day like i've seen people do. Odds of someone pulling out on you, cutting you up or you ending up under a lorry if you hit an oil patch are all just too high.

Urban myth. You can go around as many times as you want. Although instructors sometimes say don't do more than three. The highway code doesn't say anything about a maximum number of times that you can go around a roundabout

it's also never been proven by the CPS that getting your "Knee down" is classed as being "not in control of a motor vehicle" "dangerous driving" etc.

There's even urban myths about people being warned about being done for "Excessive lean" Laughing

A boy racer mate got pulled for doing it and was told 3 times was the limit by a police man. The roundabout by my dads house is perfect for roundabout lapping and i've seen the police pull a car driver there for it, also seen one pulled over talking to a bunch of bikers who were taking it in turns to do it.

I read in the advice section of MCN that a guy was getting done for getting his knee down. He had a court date and was asking for advice. The advice was that he would be need to prove he was driving safely, i.e he needed to be able to prove he could ride like that safely on the roads and that even with an advanced riding certificate, track days and racing expirence odds were he still wouldn't get away with it.

Surely the cps would have to prove you weren't in control of the bike rather than you having to prove that you were?

Make sure you're not near any houses, an old boy took my numberplate while I was lapping a roundabout near his house. Apparently you can get an ASBO if you're causing a nuisance by doing it.

when i first started riding i went to roundabouts in the evenings on quiet roads.

Then i had the infinitely better idea of going to a nearby industrial estate after dark and using theirs. No eejits in cars to worry about and you get to go round the wrong way to practice on both sides. Bargain! Thumbs Up
