Tax question. "Tax disk in post"

Hey all,

I have my bike insured, MOT is booked for Saturday night, TAX needs renewed.

When I get the MOT cert, can I put the insurance cover note, MOT cert, old TAX disk, and V10(NI) TAX application form all in an envelope and send it to the TAX office, and ride the bike while waiting on the TAX disk to be sent out to me? Or do I have to have the disk before I'm covered? Does the old "Tax disk in post" actually work if it's true?

Do it online. The bike will be legal once the payment is cleared.

Any reason why you won't do it at the post office?

You can get insurance through the E-mail, and get your disc straight away.

Or pay on line and print things off and carry it on you.

Pretty sure mot's update straight away, so as long as your ins is on there you should be able to tax online. At least that way you can use the tax is in the post.......

you should be able to ride home from the MOT (providing it passes of course) and tax it online, it takes about 5 mins for the mot to show up online.
OR if the current mot hasn't run out why not tax it now? online takes a few mins and all the details you need are on the reminder..
EDIT just noticed you said N,I i'm not sure how the system works for there but would imagine the same.

Hi

It is an offence not to display a tax disk even if you have one. There is a mainland exemption that allows you to ride for up to 5 days without displaying a tax disk if you apply for a new one before the end of the month the last one expired in. But that won't apply if the bike has been off the road.

I have mentioned it before on the forum but I'll mention it again.

I was robbed of 60 quid for not displaying a 15 tax disc. You would be fine to tax it online though.

I didn't have the disc on me but I had paid for it. I was young , as polite as I could possibly be even after getting the fine, and I believed that telling the truth was the way to go. I told them I had just got my new leather jacket for my birthday (it was the day of my birthday). and I had forgot to switch it over into my new jacket.

It taught me a very important lesson when it comes to dealing with police. Honesty is not the best policy.

Order it online and you should be fine.

"If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires"

Note the last sentence, this was taken direct from the DVLA do it online website.

My TAX disc was stolen from my CBR400 a few years ago. It caused some embarrassment when I sold the bike. The chap paid for it, and as he was getting his gear on to ride it away, he asked where the TAX Disc was. It was at this point I realized it had been stolen.

So for that reason, I do not display my TAX on my bike. Instead, it's in a folder in my bedroom.

Didn't realize you could be fined for not displaying one though. Might have to dig it out, and keep it on the bike somewhere hidden.

I haven't displayed a tax disc on any of my bikes for the last 3 years. Most of them haven't even been pressed out of the letters they came with

I've been stopped by traffic police, and i was asked where my tax disk was. I told him it was under the seat as I've had it stolen twice, and asked if he wanted to see it.

He said no.

Therefore I can only imagine its not really an issue.
