Watching the video on PistonHeads you can clearly see the hub still on the swinging arm, and the spokes in place on the rim.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Funny you should say that. My dad and I out in his car once was overtaken by a wheeltrim. Dad said,"that looks the same as one of mine." Later on we looked, It was one of ours!

Although to this day I cant get my head around how we were overtaken by a wheeltrim that was attached to the wheel turning the same speed as we were moving. I know it has something to do with physics but buggered if I can work it out.

Power to weight ratio.

Spinning at the same speed, but near enough 2 tonnes less to drive!

Think about bikes and cars with the same power. Bikes will accelerate quicker cause of the weight. Same sort of thing.

except as soon as its not attached it isn't powered, so then is rolling by inertia only?

Thats the paradox I cant get my head around. Power to weight I understood. No power and it still moved faster. We were traveling at a steady 60. Car was a Lada so cant go much faster. Laughing Must admit though. It was rather humorous.

No-one seems to have noticed the BMW that clipped the Ducatis rear wheel very early on in the bend. As the Duc applies the power, the wheel spokes sheer.

I blame the BMW's intial impact which obviously fractured the spokes. But still a manufacturing defect, it still should break that easily.

Big ole point right there!
but yeah still it definately is still a manufacturer defect, especially if they said that wheel had only done a few races.
