So my exhaust turned up an hour ago, brand spanking new Marshall deeptone full system.
Like a kid in a candy store I ripped open the box, checked everything was there and began to put it on.

All the pipes are numbered 1-4 so it's easy enough.
Checked the numbers on the pipes 1 2 3 3

Thought it may be a error so I proceeded with 1-3.

They sent two number 3 pipes Rolling Eyes

Now I'm not exactly sure at which age I learnt to count to 4 but I'm pretty sure it was before I started working.

Ah, you've chosen the "free flow" system there, with the optional Direct Atmospheric Vent technology. Laughing

#4 pipe is on its way, at their cost, right?

I rang them straight away and they have phoned the supplier but I'm now waiting to see what they are going to do about it.

talk to your card company, get them to freeze the funds until such a time as you have a result you are happy with or something. try to get a phone number and ring them, give them a deadline to get it sorted by, mention you have now had to rearrange your MOT and are now being put out by their incompetance, and tell them you'll be contacting trading standards if you don't get the proper part within the reasonable timescale outlined earlier

Just had this come through via email. I have read and re-read it but on my understanding absolutely nothing has actually been done yet....

Quote:

Greetings Mr James ******

A conversation has taken place between my colleague (Jim who deals with administration or activity) about your particular circumstances to the general manager of the supply company that deals with Laser / JAMA exhausts.

In brief it is repeating the point of asking him directly what has been done, and what is going to be done to resolve this situation fully. Pointing out that this conversation has already taken place with his representatives and even though verbally it has been stated what is intended to happen, that we at bits4motorbikes (even after requesting a number of times) have not been given written confirmation of the actions to take place.

Also it has been pointed out to him that the customer, is unhappy with the situation as it stands, and what direction of recourse should we be pointing the customer to, given that the fault in packaging existed outside of both our company and the supply company, and at the moment appears to be a problem with the supply from the factory itself.

The manager has said that he will look into the situation and get back to us.

Yours sincerely

Have you recieved an apology or anything?

If someone sent me that rubbish I'd be phoning the credit card company to get my money back and would buy an exhaust from elsewhere.

All you want is a number 4 exhaust piece. Not a letter describing situations, the inner workings of their company and how it's not their fault. Evil or Very Mad

I hope you get it sorted out fast mate. Thumbs Up

The email seems to be a very over worded way to say 'We've spoken to the manufactuer, who haven't agreed it's their fault, and are waiting for them to tell us what they'll be doing about it'

It's actually, apparently, bad practise for a company to apologise for a mistake. They can say that they are sorry about you being upset but don't expect an outright apology. I expect all you really want is a goddamn number 4 exhaust though. Smile

PS. The company that sold you that exhaust should rip open a spare set (if they have one) and send you number 4 out of that. They can then deal with THEIR supplier. It's what I would do in their situation.

sounds to me like the seller is blaming the supplier/manufacturer.
poor show by the seller, seeing as the legally binding contract is between him & you.
its up to the seller to put it right, hes sold you something not fit for purpose.
if it were me, i'd be writing one of my letters & expecting some sort of compensation, for the time i had to take off work, because i couldnt use the bike.
worth a try, even just for the chance to piss them off or get some gift vouchers, to buy something else completely useless.
cheers,
GAZ

Well I've just rung them and complained again. I explained the email just seemed to pass the buck. Still waiting for a outcome after I threatened further action....

Call trading standards now.

Who cares if the manufacturer did wrong, the seller should check their products before being sent out. You paid them, not the manufacturer.

Learn your rights now, and even demand compensation for your inconvenience.

I've demanded compensation for the mot price already as I had already pre-paid that. Hard to get a mot at my local shop as it's always full up so the only way to get a slot is to pre-book and pay.

Thats pants, demand the lot back or at least a replacement pipe. If you paid via paypal file a dispute it normally scares people that don't know how it works and helped me get a refund for a rear light unit i never received. Numerous phones calls i got "i'll get the manager to phone you back" filed a dispute and got the money back within 3 hours Thumbs Up

Just had a phone call literally 7 minutes ago from the company. Apparently the replacement pipe is on route to me directly and should be here tomorrow or friday at the very latest.

I asked about the reimbursement of the mot and the guy said it's doubtful I will get any renumeration for it. Apparently the replacement pipe is coming from Holland and that the manufacturer does not have a contact number and to quote:

Quote:
will most probably ignore any email sent by me
Shocked

On a side note......

I ordered a Marshall Deeptone system.
It arrived with Marshall paperwork but in a Laser box.
The one and only stamp on the pipe is JAMA.

Think Marshall Deeptones are made by laser:

What it actually looks like:

The only stamp on it, not the Marshall one on the can as I was expecting.....:

On a side not, I live in Suffolk and this is my trusty workshop - aka - double garage. If you're ever round this way you are welcome to use the facilities if need be. There's always space for another bike and I'm happy to lend a hand.
