Hiya

My Mom was involved in a head on collision whilst driving her car. The other driver made a stupid decision to overtake at very high speed in a 30 and has left my Mom with life changing injuries.

She's been in hospital for the past 2 months and has been told that she will be there for at least another 4 / 5 months. In all probability she may never walk again and we already know she has lost the majority of movement of her left hand.

The police are going to prosecute the other driver (not sure what charge because they are still gathering evidence), they have told us verbally that my Mom was not at fault. We have no idea when the other driver will be appearing in court, I'm not even sure if that's pertinent to my question.

We want to instruct a decent injury lawyer to get the best outcome for her. Her insurance company have already put us in touch with a firm that they recommend but my gut feeling is that this firm is on a retainer with the insurers and they are likely to be as good as the other no win no fee sharks that I can get from anywhere else. Of course, my prejudice against the no win no fee lot may not be valid in any case!

Does anyone have any legal firms that you would recommend? I *think* that she had legal cover with the insurers but does that usually mean we have to go with whomever they appoint?

Thanks for any advice.

Firstly - you don't have to go with who the insurance company says, you have free choice.

If the case is as clear cut as it sounds then you pretty much have your choice of solicitors to use, as they'll all take it no win/no fee.

Your legal expenses insurance doesn't really matter, the claim will be high enough that it will come under the rules where other side will pay your expenses for a successful claim.

If I had an accident the first people I'd call are White Dalton. They specialise in bikes, but they are also fantastic at giving good free advice and help over the phone. If it was the sort of case they wouldn't want to take on (being in a car) they may well be able to suggest someone. If a firm came with their recommendation then it means they're good.

https://www.hccsolicitors.com/

Ask for Tasmina, she is actually VERY good, has dealt with 5 of my claims and has always pushed hard for a good resolution Thumbs Up

Also, thought Id read your whole post... send my regards to your mum. That really sucks, I spent a long time in hospital, and even longer in a wheelchair after a road accident, I understand how shit it must be for your family... one cocks idiotic 5 seconds ruins peoples lives.

I hope she recovers, atleast enough to enjoy her life Thumbs Up

Many thanks for the advice, thoughts and suggested contacts.

I'll start making some phone calls and see how I get on.
