I was wondering today (for no reason) if you could get a 'Busa engine in a Smart car... that would surprise a few folk.

It would probably work well too, with them being so light. Now an AR125 engine in a 3 tonne beamer, that would be fast.

Wouldn't of thought that a blade engine in a nova would of made that much difference really.

And I'm with Zak on this one Wink Its a nova Thumbs Down

If you strip it out to rally standard I'm sure it wouldn't weigh an awful lot more than a kit car, which a lot of have 'Blade engines and the like.

i think that the point is, its still a 1 litre nova, which is probably less to insure than the 1 litre bike.

Is a kit car made of metal though. Laughing
You got no chance of getting the same weight as something that has a bike engine ie caterham. Laughing Besides the last nova I saw that actually moved and probably the only one was one that had a Calibra V6 engine in it, which weighed so much that all of the joints on the nova had to be welded together really strong to cope with the extra force, and two shockers on either side at the front end to cope with the weight. No point in waisting that sort of money for a rot box.

That would be amazing! Maybe Smart could actually sell one over here if they had that kind of thinking on staff.

Really not convinced it would work, the engine space in a smart car is a little restrictive to say the least. Then again, as a friend once told me. Get a big enough lump hammer and anything will fit.
On the other hand, it's looking very likely that a 'busa or ZZR engine would indeed fit in a Bondbug...

I have some vids off an escort with a fireblade turbo engine in it. The car only weighs 740kg. For the specs look here https://www.situne.no/index.php?id=1012 .

Here a link to the vids.

There's a mini-van based in Birmingham with a supercharged V-max engine in it. Scruffy as hell, but ye gods does it move (in a straight line, at least). Seen him around the Haymills/Sheldon area a few times now.

There is a company that fits GSXR1000 engines to smartcars, they replace the whole rear subframe and suspension, which is fully adjustable. It was featured in a very recent Evo supercar/sportscar mag, along with a 'busa-mini.

The mag might still be available in shops, could nip down your local Tesco-with-a-cafe and read it there Laughing

I'll try and dig out the details soonish.

Sounds awesome. Cool

Anyone know of any cars using smaller displacement engines? Seems like s moronic idea to me, but it'd still be fairly novel for a car to be drivin' around with my little 600cc Gixxer motor in it.

I do know of someone who is starting preiminary discussions with Big CC about fitting a turbo busa engine in his wife's

although for some reason she isn't keen Rolling Eyes

Hmm with the stability of a smart car is it wise to fit something with that much power into it? Confused

You can already get 180hp 1000cc smart car conversions done. Some videos and pictures on this site.
