Road tax.....

Basically the bike is up and ready, mot done, insurance done, money for road tax done, insurance documents to be able to tax it - not here yet Sad

I need to get out for a proper test ride to make sure all of the work I've done recently has paid off.

I asked the company to email the docs as well but they haven't. Docs should be here tuesday but it means I miss a whole weekend of not going out.

Tax only ran out end of last month and will be retaxed within a few days....
EDIT, please read below

Tax it on-line, thats of course if you are the reg keeper as the tax disc will be posted to them, insurance and MOT should be already in there database so its worth a try.

Already tried mate, I only got round to changing the insurance over to it yesterday as it's been off the road having a rebuild and I was using my other bike (sold during last week).

Theoretically, whats the worst they could do? It would only be out of tax for a max of 6 days and will of course be backdated when I tax it anyway.

Just tried again and we are good to go !!!

Last time (10pm - ish) it flagged up and said there was no valid insurance on the vehicle but it just let it through now Cool

So.... of course my next question is..... can I take it out with the printout confirmation or is it still better to wait?

Depends on how lucky you feel.

I've just MOT'd a car for one of my clients, who taxed it just before his last MOT ran out, but now can't tax it, because he doesn't have a valid MOT; basically, he's been running around with no MOT for a year.

So much for ANPR........................

You've got valid insurance and MOT, plus a tax disc that you can prove has been paid for, so your only risk is that some jobsworth will report you for failing to display (which you would probably get away with, if it ever got as far as a magistrate's court); if you don't park anywhere, then I reckon you're pretty safe to tool around for the weekend.

I drove around for months with no tax disc just because I kept forgetting to take it off the noticeboard and put it in the car. If you are 'electronically' clean the anpr cameras will not flag you.

If it's on the MID now then you can tax it online and ride straight away, you have 5 days from day of expiry of last bit of paper to get another one on the bike if you've coughed online.

Well I'm sorry to say the decision has been firmly taken out of my hands now Crying or Very sad

Just went out to check it over and start it and noticed a puddle of oil by the front wheel.

Left hand fork seal has popped badly.

FFS, if it's not one thing it's another.

I've been riding for 4 years without displaying a tax disk, mostly had tax on it from doing it online, I've never taken most of the tax discs out of the envelope.

Been stopped once at Weston Bike Night when my Tax and MOT were both out by 6 days and I had forgot to renew them, luckaly was a nice plod who let me off, because the good people at SMART BIKE answered the phone at 7:30 pm Smile, to let me book MOT

Well I would ride it if the insurance came up on the database.

How did you manage to pop a seal on a bike that's not been ridden?

Your guess is as good as mine, it looked fine the day before and all I did was start it and run it up and down the drive to check the brakes etc.

The bike is 29 years old and has only done 135 kilometers since it's mot in 2009. From what I understand is the guy I bought it from took it to it's mot in 2010, rode it home and just left it in the garage.
I then bought it, chucked it in a van to get home and stripped the engine down and the rear suspension. This would have been it's maiden voyage in my ownership.

Maybe as its done so little mileage it has gone all hard then just split when you checked its brakes earlier?
