Hi all just looking at my options so i am looking at 600cc sports bikes, have test ridden a few gsxr's and cant get on with them at all, so im looking to spend around the 2k mark and have been looking at cbr600's, zx6r's r6's etc etc, now i do like the cbr600f quite alot but is it as focus'ed as say the zx6r or r6? i know it will be more comfortable, did they actually do a cbr600rr in the 2000 year mark?? Many thanks in advance, sorry for being a pain in the buttocks

The CBR F is less focused than the others but still a good bike so I've heard. The RR came in later on

Ive got an 95 CBR600F and done 2 and a bit trackdays on it as well as commuting and long journeys.
It's a great all rounder and a lot more comfy than the SP-1 Laughing

Thumbs Up from me

An in the middle option is this
https://www.hoc.org.uk/gallery/bikes/CBR600FS_2002.jpg

That said ive ridden about 4 600 sports, and owned 1..
The Daytona 600.. ok so it probably isnt as fast as the Japs (indicated 146mph and would not move anymore) but it was a lovely bike, fairly comfy, i rode long distance on it no worries! Thumbs Up

tt600 is great value as you can get one for about £1k, arguably less likely to have been abused than an r6

If you like the CBR600F, have a try of a Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat. More relaxed than the R6, but more practical too.

Honda made the F sport between 00 and 02, it has the sports seat (kills ya arse when new) stiffer suspension, a close ratio gearbox and a different map on the ECU compared to the standard F model. I chopped my TT600 in for one after having several issues with mine, the last one was a blown number 3 main bearing so I went back to another Honda. They are cracking bikes, every bit as good and quick as any of the other bikes you mention. Only known problem is the cam chain tensioner, I never had one done on mine, and was told that is cos I must have thrashed it a lot, because apparently lack of use is what causes the problems!

Have you tried a ZX6R, R6 or CBR600RR?

If not I would seriously suggest it, as by not getting on at all with the GSX-R you are likely to not get on with the other 600 sports either.

i have ridden an r6, a triumph daytona 675 and a zx6r and was perfectly at home with them, just dont like the gixxer, i did have a sv650s as well so its not all suzuki's just the gixxers, perhaps i should give the cbr600f a go as well.

Just go round the 2nd hand bike shops and test ride as many as you can, you won't know how they will be on long rides....but at least it will give you some idea.

RF600
ZZR600

Both older than some but something else to consider if after a little different from the norm.

I've said it many times before, why a 600? By going to 750, 900 or even >1000 the insurance isn't always as bad as you may think and the choice is then increased ten fold.

well a larger bike isnt something i havent considered, i was orginally looking at a 1997 cbr900rr and a zx9r also caught my eye, just weighing up my options, insurance isnt a problem they are all relitively cheap to insure, i am not going to get one till september but i am looking at all my options, its defonatly got to be a sports bike, i had an sv650s sport and it ran out of puff for me and i would like a inline 4 sports bike, i am only looking to spend 2k so i dont think it will get me the likes of an r1, dont think it would get me a 1000cc gsxr either as they are quite a bit newer. More suggestions please

you can get an r1 for £1500

but personally, I think they are a bit too powerful to be fun on the road at speeds anywhere close to legal.

at least with a 600 you have to rev it a bit, even if 60mph feels a bit slow.

on a litre bike 100 feels a bit slow

for a feeling of speed at legal speeds something unfaired is quite nice, or in my case, i was riding around on a tt600 without the fairings for a while

a speed four is quite good for that sort of thing, they are basically a naked tt600 and are probably about £2k as they are a bit newer than a tt600

have also considered the naked bikes as i was contimplating street fightering a cheaper bike if i got one for like 1k or under, prefer the sports bike though for everyday riding, i dunno im soo confused right now as to what to get, been considering all sorts but i think the inline 4 is the most defonate thing i know about it all. I love the cbr900rr i found and also the zx9r in the same place but scared that after 2 years of not riding a bike regually at all im gonna poop myself every time i open the throttle or is that what its all about??

In what way didn't you get along with the examples you've ridden? Perhaps a sports 6 isn't for you?

the gsxr's i rode were the only ones i didnt get along with, i rode a k8 and the other was a k3 which i rode the other week, i have a feeling the k3 was because of its wide fairing which annoyed me and i think the k8 may of been because i hadnt ridden a sports bike in like 18 months at that point, i jumped onto the r6 after the k8 and it was fantastic, i like the srad suzuki alot but im scared to risk buying one and finding out its not what i like!! Anyone wanna let me out on theres, a local garage has a srad 750 in there stock but they dont allow people to test ride for insurance reasons so i cant even find out if i like that or not!!

Depends what your after, the F series ninja's have a much more upright riding position, are a fair bit skinnier (makes filtering through even the smallest gaps easy) and have better fuel consumption, about 45mpg, so made better every day work horses if your going to use it for work aswell as the weekend hoon.

Not saying the srad is a bad workhorse though, I use mine to commute to work and everywhere else comfortably but it's a much more 'race' focused machine. I absolutely love mine, such a lovely handling bike, so responsive, just begs you to open the throttle and feels so natural dragging your knee through the twisties
Has a fuel light and 2 digital trip meters which is nice compared to the F series zx6rs basic trip meter and fuel tap, srad digital temp gauge is nice too. Downside is you get a poor 35 mpg unless you ride carefully.

Front brakes are better on the srad with larger semi-floating disks.
Underslung rear brake on the srad is actually very good, does feck all on the ninjas.

Maybe I'm biased now I have a new pride and joy but the zx6r seems rather 'boxxy' next to the curvy srad.

My 97' zx6r

My 97' gsxr 600

Need to take a more recent photo of the srad has a fair few new tasty bits on it from work Smile

Thumbs Up

Yeh i have been looking at an srad 750 at my local garage and think its soo stunning and a good price too, the 600 srad they have it over my budget so cant go there. Think the 750 will make a damn good inbetweener having almost 1000cc power with 600 lightness and cornering ability
