 |
|
Before I start, I hate scumbo-uninsured drivers as much as the next man.
Got stopped at a police check point yesterday, routine stuff, just pulling every second car/bike/caravan. Police were nice enough, giving advice to me about biking, my insurance wasnt on their computer but they said as Im only insured two months i was prob okay, just hand in docs within a week............WRONG ............
I got insured in feb, and they took ages to send the docs to me so after complaining and confirming my address a million times on the phone they sent the docs special delivery. I had to sign for them and then rushed to post office to get taxed and didnt notice the address on the doc had wrong house number (i had to sign for it so assumed the address was ok, right ?)
So, the police said my bike insurance wasnt on their computer and have gave me a week to hand in docs, fine. Called insurance this morning and they said it was cancelled due to a non payment on march 5th. I have always had money in my account (just bought first house with missus and we use to one account for everything), so maybe the non payment was some sort of mistake (or even due to address mismatch, in hindsight). However, as the address was wrong i didnt get anything in writing about it.
They are looking into it and will call back. Anyone know if I can do anything, as its their mistake, and it appears am fucked as far as the police are concerned and will prob get fined or worse !!!!
Any help ???
Got it all sorted plus an apology, so the moral of the story is be persistant, as the first two agents i dealt with more or less told me to go fiddle with myself as I didnt have a chance !!!!

That's as may be but the only other option is 'failing to produce'. What is there to lose from trying? ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

THe trouble is, I don't think there's much chance of an insurer restoring cover retrospectively even if it was their fault it was cancelled because they won't know if they will have any claims to cover that they wouldn't have otherwise had. In fact, it might even be illegal for them to do it. The best I think they would offer is to restore the insurance from the current date with no penatly to no claims. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Show the docs. If Plod questions them, say nothing. Literally nothing. Admit to nothing, deny nothing. If they have a case against you, let them prove it.
In the meantime, all your communication with your insurer should be by recorded delivery. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Short and curley's mate, Short and curley's.
The police look at it in black and white. Have you insurance? If not, no matter what the reason you are guilty. The up side is you may have a claim against the insurance company, putting you in that position. Talk to the insurance company say you may be taking action to claim back any loss you have suffered due to there neglect. See what happens
