Just finished work on the GPZ. Bought it in November for £500 (mainly because of it having a valid MOT, decent tyres and having only 15k on the clocks). It looked TIRED, paint job was fucking abismal (the before photos make it look 10000x better than it did) and it had been generally neglected. Got ignored abit over the winter due to it being uncomfortably cold to work outside.
Sorry for A: the poor quality of the 'after' photos B: the lack of angles in the 'before' shots. Didn't plan on uploading any at the time...
New gold o-ring chain (£26) and sprockets (£20ish IIRC).
Fit missing bolts etc. (no cost, bolts lieing around everywhere)
Re-sprayed it all and added my own subtle twist with the decals (about £70 for all the paint, lacquer, hardener, thinners, wet&dry paper, farécla and decals, already had compressor and gun)
De-rusted and re-painted the swing arm which was terrible and front mudguard bracket which was looking worse. Oh and some of the rear frame which was getting rusty. ( call it £10 for hammerite and rust converter)
Cleaned and greased EVERYTHING that was touched.
New oil + filter (just over £20 together)
New pads to be fitted front + rear once the discs are bedded back in (£15)
Bled the brakes.
Plugs were actually pretty fresh NGKs so just cleaned and re-gapped them.
Plan to:
Fit blue LED dash backlights
Replace front sprocket retaining plate (when it arrives)
Considering new / heated grips and LED tail/indicator bulbs.

Yeah it's a nexxus. Sounds quite nice when it's revved actually. The agricultural chug of idle disappears. I've only been round the block a few times (i say a few... i spent over half an hour going round and round) to free the brakes off abit and get used to the bike abit before it's insured and used. It's a completely different beast from the 125 to say the least, i'm chuffed with it. We've back to black'd pretty much everything since those photos too. Photographer friend of me and my dad is coming over in the near future to get some decent shots of it, i'll pop those up when I get em ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

About 5'11" I think but it's been AGES since I last measured. although I don't seem to have grown since then so it should till be fairly accurate. If you're wondering about the GPZ, the seats low as fuck, it's much more comfy than I expected. |
Yeah, I'm getting a GPZ for my first big bike. I'm around 5'11" too! It looks quite low. Can you put your foor down flat? ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Try and avoid the temptation to take it for a ride around the estate. I've made that mistake and i'm now addicted to the power of this thing. It's such a different beast to what I thought it'd be. I'm doing 70 before i know it. Brakes are sharp as well ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

It's made me really appreciate the speed and power of sport 600s. I never realised exactly HOW fast they were before, not properly. But considering my GPZ is HALF the power of a sport 6 and it's probably heavier.... The R6 i've wanted for years will be even more amazing than I thought but for now i'm plenty scared of the GPZ ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

I'm guessing the belly pan has spacers fitted to lower it ?
I just fitted a similar (if not the same make) exhaust....and it's melted my bellypan
I /should/ have fitted spacers and some heat shield before deciding to take it for a short run....you live and learn
Regards
