Best way to play movies onto TV?

Hello chaps,

If I've got some films from newsgroups on my laptop what's the best way to play them on my tv? I've got a samsung so I can use allshare but it buffers too much as it's all wireless and I can't get the ethernet cable to my room.

I'm guessing it's to get an external hard drive? Bit short of cash atm so was hoping there'd be another way, any ideas?

Also, my laptop doesn't have any connect to plug it into a tv, has the VGA port but the files are MKV so I wanna play them in HD if possible.

If there are no connectors on your laptop you can use then it might be difficult.

Best way is just hooking up the screen directly to your laptop. You sure there isn't an svideo or similar output?

You may be able to get a vga-x converter for your tv.

I use a WDTV HD to play mkv files. It plays direct from an external hard drive with no buffering and will play almost any format.

I bought a VGA to TV converter off ebay for 20 squid. Even hooked up to a crt tv it worked great.

VGA supports full HD so whats the problem?

edit, maybe not, seems the restrction is at the TV end with most not going beyond 1366x768.

still enough to watch HD.

Aye I didn't realise VGA played HD. I don't have a cable either though .

Found £80 today in a card from my birthday that I forgot about so will just buy an external hard drive instead, cheers for the help though lads.

I just use an S-Video to scart cable. Cost about £5.

Bought a 1tb hard drive today in the end, seems pretty rapido at transferring stuff so it's all good. My router is shite which is why I can't stream it wirelessly without it buffering every 2 seconds otherwise I would have done that.

Now fingers crossed the hard drive can take all the abuse!
