What would you say your average riding speed is...
After gettin the lil bike my new average is going to be about 20mph... but on the GN, I was averaging about 50mph everywhere... normally going on NSL roads at every opportunity.
Sorry, I'm just curious =P

At the moment I'm only riding on my commute - 15 miles, half an hour. Apparently I average 30mph Smile

On my RS125 I am usually doing at least 120mph everywhere, problem I have is the red powerband, you just pin the throttle back in first it lights up the rear tyre, spins it through second and chirps in third, I know it does at least 150mph because a mate was following me on a VFR400 and he said he was doing around 160mph before hitting the Jap imposed speed limiter on the bike.

Really in all honesty I don't know, I would imagine quite high around the 50-60mph mark as I turn right out of my house I am on NSL or I turn left out of my house and about 1/2 mile late I am on NSL and that is about all I ride, no town riding.

Probably about 25mph average, busy city roads followed by busy dual carriageway followed by some more busy city roads.

In my car (which I probably drive similar speeds to my bike when I'm on my own in it) I get a permanent average of 28.5mph no matter how much motorway work I do.

You do need a frame of reference when asking the question though, because that 28.5mph is an average over the entire time I've owned the car, not per journey. Most people won't be able to answer this question because they don't have fancy trip computers on their bikes which can tell them, and (speaking for myself) I'm not going to get the calculator out after every ride to work out my average speed!

Hi

Depends whether you mean average speed for a part of the journey where speed is what you want, or if you include all the time the bike / car is running but doing 0mph.

The car has a trip computer and it takes very little time stopped at lights or bimbling around town for the average speed to drop like a stone. Average speed on a tank of fuel is regularly 20~30mph even with plenty of time at far higher speeds.

On single journies average speed varies a lot. A 75mph average is pretty good going and would probably mean trying to cruise at 90mph on a motorway with the odd time being slowed down or the odd junction to negotiate. My commute to work is 95 miles and takes about 2 hours on the bike, with 90% of it being motorway (but including the M6 traffic jam north or Birmingham). So under 50mph average.

All the best

Keith

Managed 81mph over 600 miles one day but that was pretty much all french and spanish motorways

https://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/bramble43/Imgp0538-2-1-1.jpg

Next day didn't do so well but did spend half the time pissing about in places.

https://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/bramble43/IMGP0589.jpg

Did a 70 mph average over 70 miles end of last summer in the UK but it was damn hard going on NSL roads and 40 miles of motorway

Those aren't averages, they are beliefs in what sort of speeds you would tend to stick to. No way you will get 90 mph genuine average speed (unless you measure your average over a short period at 90 mph).

My car has a rolling average around 40 mph and it spends 80% of its time at <ahem> 'progressive' motorway speeds.

On the trip computer thing, my last car (BMW) only kept the rolling average (speed and fuel consumption) over a set distance, so was never "average since the last reset", it was an average over a predefined previous distance. Pretty sure our other car (Mercedes) does it genuinely since last reset (as well as showing journey averages).

There's an app for that Laughing

For London:

M25 and Dual carriageways 68mph.
North Circular 37mph
inside North Circular 23mph (Not recommended)
in central London 17mph

Hi

Prompted by Weasleys post above I just checked in the X type. Since we bought it the car has done 8394 miles at an average speed of 39mph.

All the best

On my 4t 125 going down nsl back roads and into town to mates, I averaged 30mph and I was pinning it the whole way pretty much. Doing 50+ whenever possible basically but every stop, corner and bits of traffic lower your real average right down.
