Seeing as that was a petrol station and they usually add on 50/60p because they know people will buy them whilst filling up, £7 x 30 = £210 a month. I think it's time to stop smoking.

started smoking when I was 10, by 30 I was smoking pipes and cigars, gave up 20+ years ago, because I was not enjoying the stink and taste any more.
Used patches for a week.

I've been quit for a couple of years now (fags, anyway) and I don't miss it.

No judgements, but there was a couple sitting by me at the coffee shop at lunchtime (outside) and god knows what brand they were smoking but they smelt rancid. Can't have tasted very nice... Confused

Never properly tried to give up, but have been seriously cutting down recently, which has given me major chest pains.

Smoking is just a silly price now, I used to easily smoke 20 in a 8hour day at work, and chain smoke 3 or 4 in a 15minute break.
It's silly really, I can't even walk to the shop now without getting out of breath and i'm only 21.

Anyone tried them electric ones? I bought one a while back as I know I'm more addicted to the physical side of smoking, i.e. taking a toke and inhaling the smoke

Patches would be a waste of time, I don't crave nicotine, I crave the sensation and relaxing feeling of inhaling the smoke and actually putting the cigarette to my mouth. So, I thought them electric cigarettes would be a good way for me to get myself off them. They do work but they aren't strong enough. I might buy some more cartridges for them and give them another try.

I will have a look into that Alan Carr book.

I quit 2 yrs ago.

The key to quitting is this:

Never assume that you will get over it and not want a cigarette ever again - that never happens.

you have to accept that one cigarette = you have not quit and you are a smoker.

Hence cold turkey is the only way out.

My biggest tip: never refuse a cigarette by saying "I've quit".

Always say "I don't smoke".

I used to smoke about 10 a day, with spliffs in addition to this.

I packed them both in 2 years ago this august, I believe that if you really want to quit, then you will be able to do it cold turkey, as I did.

I still get the urge to smoke every now and then, and have the odd rollie, but never more than one occasion every few weeks, or months, the cannabis has stopped completely since I originally quit smoking it.

I quit around 18 months ago or so. I used to smoke a bag of green and a 50g pouch of baccy a week. The gf gave up when she was pregnant and told me that the people in know claim that if you dont leave it at least 45 minutes before going near the baby then you might as well just light up with the kid in your arms. Fair enough, but, the only thing I wanted to do after 45 minutes was have another smoke.

Choice was simple really, stop or not hold my daughter. I stopped. Got the 10mg patches as I was never a heavy smoker. After a week cut down to the 5mg one and the second day of the 5mg one I just didnt bother putting it on.

The only issue I had was first thing in the morning when I woke up. I'd put a patch on and guzzle coffee like it was going out of fashion because of the morning cravings but after an hour or so the patches kicked in and I got a nicotene hit all at once. Was great fun. Light headed and spaced for a few minutes. I could have gotten addicted to them if they wern't so expensive!

Since giving up though I have managed to save up and do my DAS course and buy my bike without getting into debt. Still miss the odd spliff now and then but honestly quitting was the best thing I done.

Considering stopping some day as I hate being financially raped (nice how fags increase 50p per 20 pack yet a pint only increases by a few pence).

13/14 spending my dinner money on cigs, 16 went straight on to 20 a day when I started receiving EMA, quit, started again, quit, started again, quit, got heavy on weed, quit weed, started again..

no. 1- 6 months
no. 2- About 4 weeks
no. 3- Can't even remember cause my cigarettes were replaced with cannabis, that part of my life is fuzzy
