Ideal Trackbike

Hi All,
I would like your advise/opinion if possible.
I am about to purchase a bike to use on the road and for track days for the next 12 months and after that I will be looking to convert to a trackbike only. (Will have more money to spend on the bike in 12 months).
I have got my heart set on a 1997/1998 CBR900 Fireblade but have never heard or seen anyone with one of these as a track bike and it sounds like most people go for a 600cc/750cc for a track bike. Maybe a ZX7 would be more suitable? What would you suggest??

ZX7R is heavy and lumbering - I'd go for a flightier 600 personally. 600s from around 2000 don't tend to feel much slower at all than the earlier blades, but do tend to feel a bit more agile.

I would definitely consider a GSXR750; ideally Y/K, but even the SRAD seems to offer a better overall package than the 7R.

It's worth considering going for a trackbike with MOT now - that way you're saving on buying decent suspension etc.

my mate is just doing his 1st season on his 2000 zx9 and he regrets spending the money on it and is looking for a 600 maybe r6 or cbr... the zx9 is so heavy and just seems so much bigger and heavy than other bikes of that year..

id go for a 600/750 if i was you...

I got a 2000 zx9r after my stock 2001 ZX6R. As the '9 had been raced, it was actually lighter and more nimble than the 600.

The 9 isn't massively bigger than the 6; even with stock stuff you should be able to tweak it to feel much more lively.

But, I still wouldn't choose a stock one for a track bike Smile
