Where do you dispose of old used oil? No where near me seems to want to take it?

Luckily I can get rid of it at work* although I keep quite a bit for oiling chains etc.

You can normally find a local garage who'll let you chuck a bit in with their waste oil or if not then you need to find a council tip/recycling centre.

*because I work in a nature reserve.

Council tip should have a big oil recycling drum, take your bottles down and empty them in.

Before now I have burnt a gallon or two on an old BBQ, it made a 30ft plume of thick black smoke right in the middle of a residential area. Won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Laughing smoke signals!

Woman on the phone must not have had a clue then as she seems to think they wont take 'old motor oil' in the council tips and couldn't reccommend me a place to take it either. Might just visit the tip with the oil as they will more than likely know more than she does! 14 mile round trip to get rid of oil.. they better take it ha! Laughing

Hi

Not certain but was under the impression that the council has to provide waste oil collection facilities.

All the best

Leave it on a neighbours doorstep in with the milk bottles. They love it.

Our local council have an email address for the waste/ recycling division. Maybe yours has the same? Could email and ask which ones take oil, and if none of them do then why not? Smile

Depends where I am really, if I am at home then the storm drain will suffice, if at mates workshop just empty it into the stream that runs past his workshop, now if you excuse me I am going to go throw some of my old tyres and some asbestos sheeting in the local forestry area Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Although you do raise a valid point, not sure where I am going to have to take my bucket, it is getting kinda full, and I am not really sure what is in it anymore, I know it definitely has, engine oil, brake fluid, petrol, tar and glue remover, some thinners, a screw driver bit and a tiny bit of dog sick Sick

Wrap it in a black bag and put it out with the rubbis.

Naaaah- those were the good old days Cool

As long as the local tip has an oil disposal bin they should take it.

You don't need to bathe in it, just pour it in the container!
