I am 19 male.

Yesterday morning my Shoulder started to ache, just a bit, I could still use it fine but throughout the day it got worse and worse and about 10pm I had to tell my mates I was going home because it was so painful. Any movement is horrible, even now, I have wedged my arm between the chair and me so it doesn't move while I type.

Sleeping was horrible, every movement hurt. I thought it might go away but if anything it is slightly worse. I don't want to run to the doctor straight away so BCF and google it is for the moment.

When I cough, it hurts really bad. My neck feels ok but it is just my left shoulder.

People on tinternet say a torn rotator cuff but this usually happens after weightlifting of doing something strenuous with their shoulders. I can't think of lifting much yesterday or the day before. Just day to day usage.

Anyone got any ideas?

Give it a few days, use anti-inflammatorys and painkillers to ease the grief, rest it. If after this there is no improvement or it gets worse then it's off to the docs.

Anything involving joints or muscles isn't worth bothering the doctors/A&E with unless its excruciating pain, because they can't do a damn thing about it, and you'll be sent home with "rest for a few days" as your prescription.

Trust me, I've spent more than my fair share of hours in A&E waiting rooms and doctors surgeries to know this much.

I did this playing rugby at the start of the season.

It was more of an ache than anything, and only when I lifted my arm above my shoulder.

Gradually went away thankfully, but it doesn't sound as bad as yours. Especially if you did nothing to warrent it.

Perhaps a trapped nerve.

Thanks peeps.

It is the same at the moment, constant dull ache and can't move easily.

If it is the same tomorrow I will call my doctor and ask for an appointment. I can't ride anywhere at the moment. Horrible being stuck.

+1

To be honest asking for advice online for joint pain (especially shoulder) is tricky 'cos it could be loads of things (off the top of my head: rotator cuff tear, acromio-clavicular joint problem, rheumatoid arthritis (especially as there was no 'acute' event), osteo-arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis or tear in any one of the muscles around the shouder, and there are loads).

Even people who know about that sort of shizzle couldn't tell without assessing range of movement, strength, location of pain, sensation etc, and all these things cant be done through a monitor.

Whatever it is it sounds like there is a definate inflammatroy response so the above advice is excellent. Get it checked out when things have calmed down a bit. Thumbs Up

i tore a muscle underneath my shoulder blade a few years back and the pain was a dull ache that just increased with use.

the 'laying arm between chair and side' to keep it still is what i did as well.

i did find sleeping with my arm raised above my head helped me sleep.
finally went to docs who strapped it and suggested certain exercises, but what helped most was one of those deep heat plasters.

the one i found most effective was in boots, but only over the counter not on the shop floor.

cant remember the name just that it was a silver sheet about A4 size.

eventually healed after a few weeks.
but until it did it was me right down, made me real grumpy as well....lucky the missus is the understanding type...Laughing

good luck and hope yours heal quickly

I went to the doctor with what felt like a really tight hamstring, was making me hobble. Turns out it's likely that I've slipped disk. Referred to the physio and also been given some stronger anti-inflammatories and exercises to do.

Didn't rush you in for emergency surgery though did they? Exactly, you got given anti-inflammatorys (like I said) and some stretches to do whilst they make you wait several weeks for an appointment with a physio, by which time they are guessing it will have cleared up, and you won't even bother turning up to your appointment. Job done, now, onto this person who has something seriously wrong with them......

These kind of injuries can take anywhere from a couple of days to 6-8 weeks to sort themselves out, only after that, or if pain becomes unbearable/progressively worse would there be any reason to pay you more attention than you've already been given.

Less than 2 weeks for the physio appointment. The physio changed the exercises I do and advised me to change the way I sit when you using my laptop. Seems to help but it hasn't fixed it, then again it's only been just over 2 weeks since I originally saw the doctor.

While I'd agree with not seeing the doctor for something like joint and muscle aches, if it is something which means he has to stop riding his bike and change the way he sits then there is no reason not to see the doctor. The stronger anti-inflammatories they give him will be better than ibuprofen you buy in the shops.

Although I guess you did say give it a few days before going to the doctors. Which is what I did and what I'd recommend Laughing

Well this morning it seems to have subsided a bit. No constant pain anymore. I don't have full use of my arm and I could probably ride now but it still is quite painful if I move it and picking anything up is very painful.

I think it is sorting itself out.

In the past week and a half due to my inactivity I have watched seasons 1-9 of Mash. Every episode.

I seem to remember being told to "man up" by the OP not so long ago.

Course, I rode my bike on both the day I broke my toe, and each day after...

A broken toe is nothing compared to what my arm was like. It felt so bad, I left half a joint at my mates, just so I could get home to lie down. That is how bad it was.

So your brother touched your cock, and it caused you to go down for 20 minutes?

Are you sure you should be telling us this? Shocked
