Planning off for a run with my 12 year old, however a few little issues before i head off.

Any DIY solutions to sticky seat or to make the pillion seat sticky like those plastic wrap things you get to stop pillions from sliding forward, not looking to buy one for the moment until I am happy that he will come along on more trips.

Luggage pillion will be using a small back pack that is light with clothing I will be carrying heavier stuff in my tank bag, and other suggestions on this.

Do not think i will be able to wear a backpack with a pillion but not tried it to be fair?

Sorry but I'm confused. What exactly are you asking?

If you want to know if you can take your kid on journys with you then yes. Provided he can get both feet on the pillion pegs.

Can he take a ruck sack? yes again provided he doesnt topple backwards off the bike.

Can you get one of those seat covers? Again yes. They are pretty cheap and apparently work.

Can you carry a ruck sack? Probably not with a pillion.

Need more than the tank bag then get yourself some cargo style panniers. Small and lightweight and the kiddo should be able to sit on the straps of them with his feet on the pegs.

I'd suggest probably not having a rucksack whilst carrying a pillion, I always make my passenger carry mine!

Had a mate on the back of my gixer, carrying a set of tyres for his bike which had been left at a garage near where he got a puncture. Guy's been on there pillion a lot, and described the experience of being pushed backwards that little bit by the tyre slung over his shoulder as 'somewhere between interesting and bloody terrifying.'

Added to this, the front tyre was rested over my screen, and surprised me by flying up at any speed above about 40 (was in a hurry to get it done before shop closed so saw 3 figures) meaning I had to hold it down with my left hand for pretty much the whole journey.

Brilliant fun, but probably worth a rethink for next time.

Anyway, the relevance is that anything pushing your passenger away from you will make it uncomfortable and possibly more frightening under acceleration.

Have you considered a pair of love handles? On my phone so can't find a link right now, but they're pretty common and I've heard some good things about them. Was given a set at the end of last year, but not had a chance to test them, due to the girlfriend being a wuss in cold weather, and some other circumstances I'll go into at a later date.

Can't help but feel they'd be more useful than a sticky seat though, can't really see how that would help at all, never really heard of anyone complaining about them slipping on the seat, more that their upper body gets pulled back under hard acceleration, and thrown forward under braking, which is much more uncomfortable.

Interested to hear how you get on though.

Definitely recommend the Love Handles, i first took my daughter on the back when she was five and just able to reach the pegs, the handles gave her something positive to hold on to. I don't have a link but think i paid around a tenner for them, have a look on the bay of thieves.

The grippy meshing to put round you seat is this:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Non-Slip-Safety-Mat-anti-slip-rug-gripper-Supahome-/150585148240?pt=UK_Home_Garden_FittedCarpets_Underlay_SM&hash=item230f930350

Take off seat - wrap - gaffertape to underside of seat.

+1 for "lovehandles" too (I am planning on taking my 10 year old on the back of my GSXR1000 using lovehandles and grippy seat).

Vital importance - get a helmet that fits them. Also consider at the very least jeans, boots, jacket and gloves. It will cost a few quid but if you can't even kit them out in basic stuff then don't take them pillion (make sure your insurance includes pillion too).

Thumbs Up

Well I have I would not take him without the proper gear, got a good helmet/textile trousers and leather jacket cost me a fortune.

Found that my jacket has sort of handles on them , but wil pop into a bike shop on the way and see if i can get some love handles
