I asked posted up a few weeks ago about my clutch dragging after installing a new one but didnt get much of a response and thought that it might sort its self out anyway but it hasnt so I though I would describe in more detail...
vfr 750 hydraulic clutch.
New friction plates, new steel plates and new heavy duty springs.
I have filled it with 10-40 semi synth as that is what the manual says and that was all that was in the shop but have previously used fully synth with no problems.
So my 1st question is will the difference between fully and semi synth maybe make things better with the problems below....
When starting from cold, pulling the clutch in and pushing down into 1st, the clutch seems to have bound so much overnight that it will instantly stall (tries to lurch forward but doesnt get very far - heavy bike and fat bastard rider).
After the first time, first will always engage smoothy as long as the revs are at idle...
Changing up through the gears can be smooth as normal or quite lumpy and hard to get in, even sometimes jumping out of gear if i havent booted it hard enough, depending on the day and the weather (lower temps seem to mean smoother changes so thats what made me think oil)
Down changes are aweful! When engine braking and slowing I pull the clutch in and blip and attempt to change down and if I dont get it perfect it doesnt go straight down, instead with the clutch pulled in it takes mayeb 1-1.5 seconds before you hear the revs drop off and when they do drop off they take a long time to drop back to idle if at all (dropping into 2nd at around 40-50 the revs wont drop below 3k when the clutch is pulled right in)
The same thing happens when acellerating hard, if I take too long to change and the revs start to drop then I cant get into the next gear without pulling the clutch in again and blippig up to match the acelleration.
The other thing i notice is that sometime when downshifting I push the lever down the selection forks/barrel dont then return to the normal position (kinda hard to explain) but the lever goes loose and it will go up and down as hard as i like and it wont do anything untill the revs drop right down toward idle
Sorry to be dragging on
also sometimes when downshifting it will feel like i have gone down a gear and with start to engine brake but then jumps down again, almost as if there was a gear in the middle but I deffinately only went from 4th to 3rd etc. I have heard of this before and people say that the basket could be scored but when I changed the clutch over everything seemed fine internally.
sooooooooo system has been bled and the master cylinder seems fine, push rod is clean and not bent. Have played with the lever to no avail also....
So it could be as simple as changing the oil? or I could have a fundamental problem with my box or clutch?
Your votes now
