This really brings into perspective the actual figure of one billion.
This is too true to be funny.
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its releases.
A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E.
A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
Stamp Duty
Tobacco Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Income Tax
Council Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing License Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Inheritance Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Alcohol Tax
V.A.T.
Marriage License Tax
Property Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax
STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt.
We had the largest middle class in the world and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened?
Can you spell ‘politicians?'
I hope this goes around the UK
At least 100 times.
What the hell happened????? ____________________ they say life begins at 40 but i think it begins at 140 !!!!!!!

Not really as we all use the short scale billion now and have done for a long time. even when the long scale billion was legitimate, accountants used the short scale. Similar to how everyone in the US uses miles, yards, feet, pounds, ounces, pints (smaller than a british pint), gallons (again smaller), fluid ounces etc, but scientists and engineers use metric.

Unless you work for the American company which i do - they manage to use a confusing blend of both metric and imperial, on the same machine, with no apparent reasoning as to why they've chosen them.

Yes but i gave the date at which the count in seconds reached a billion. I then gave the difference between those 2 dates showing the length of a billion seconds. So a billion seconds ago it was:
8:47am 1st August 1979
Also a billion minutes is 1902 years, so Jesus wasn't alive back then. He died 1981 years ago.
A billion hours is 114,155 years, so yes that would be the stone age.
A billion days ago is 2,739,726 or 2.7 million years. The first known 2 legged creatures are 290 million years old, so that ones only 287.3 million years or more out |
