finally got my RS back together, my spindle nut turned up after a friggin week and a half of waiting to be sent from Tewkesbury up North to who I bought it off to be sent back to me in Wales, I am like an hour from Tewkesbury.
Got it all back together, took it out for a shake down run, bed new brakes in, check chain adjustment, get it all ready for MOT tomorrow, then 1/4 mile from my house on the ride back, throttle started to feel "gravely" let off, reapplied throttle, still "gravely" queue lots of bad noise, rear starts to lock, clutch in, and cost 1/4 mile down hill back to my house.
To the guy on the 675, cheers for stopping as I pushed my bike back to my house.
Whipped tank and head off, found the problem, lack off oil going to carb, blocked oil line somewhere, what a bitch though, time to rebuild and put all new oil lines in.
And to think my instructor for my mod 1 was having a go at me for covering the brakes an clutch on the ER5, really should have pointed out, I ride a two stroke, you can tell a two stroke rider because their hand is always hovering over the clutch, but it is bloody annoying as it had not long been rebuilt, going to have to run it in again |

More to the point it is £300 for the bits to get it going, but I need to pay for Mod 2 which is hella annoying, got some awesome piston detonation though, just annoying as it has monged the head and barrel |

replate is about £100, piston about 50, so not £300.
£300 would be the cost of a full rebuild including the crank. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Hi
Deep scores are repaired by welding them up and remachineing before replating them.
Bit concerned about why it would get detonation though. Main cause would be low octane petrol or over advanced ignition timing. Lean mixture of serious over heating might trigger it if things are borderline but not sure they would be that bad with just a lean mix or over heating (ie, probably cause other problems first).
All the best

My TGB scooter is running around with a barrel much much much worse than that. It has seized countless times before, just break out the emery and fit new piston + rings! Fair enough an RS 125 is alittle more powerful and temperamental. And Im not sure what I would do if it were my AR125, but would be worth it to get it through the MOT. The head looks fine to me? Unless im being abit dim...but if that were the damage I caused due to a lack of oil, I'd be a happy chappy, considering the damage I have seen from a circlip jumping out at 9000rpm infact I even fixed that one at the side of the road, and got 5 miles home no problem.
EDIT: I in know way meant to advise with this, merely share my story, I apologise ! ____________________ Kawasaki AR125 B8 - Getting ready for a summer time soon!

The bike only runs on Super unleaded, and has never gone above 78 degrees since rebuilding, it has been running sweet as a nut, starts on first press of button, never ridden till 50degrees never ridden hard till 70 degrees. It has been running sweet.
On closer inspection, crank/big end seems fine, and I have found out the bike was rejetted to run rich as there was a previous fault with the bike, so no real way it has run lean as it was set up to run rich.
The bike hasn't been touched since it was rebuilt 3,000 miles or so ago, as it hasn't needed anything, never lost any performance, never cuts out it runs like a 4 stroke, it only stays on choke for under a minute before it no longer needs it, doesn't die when idling.
And no I wont be using any emery cloth, a chunk of metal has taken one of the ports out and the piston has a fairly big chunk missing from it. |

The one port has a big chunk taken out of it sadly for the price of a new barrel I think it would be more hassle than it is worth to fix it
suspicions firmly confirm oil starvation, took the oil pump cover off, undid the little screw in the middle, it dripped oil, opened throttle it piddled oil, put screw back on, took outlet pipe off, blew through it, not a drop of oil in there, nothing coming out the outlet side of the pump either. |

Hi
The damage to the head doesn't look like anything to do with oil starvation. Which suggests the head was probably already damaged (which would also explain why it looks dirty, rather than fresh damage).
As to the barrel, a cheapo one will cost about the same as a repair and replate. An original from Aprilia will cost a hell of a lot more. The places that do the replates will probably be able to do a welded repair. Try PJ Engineering or Langcourt Engineering.
All the best
