Hi,
After an accident earlier i was left with blood pouring from my thumb and first finger. Not really knowing what to do, i stuck it under the tap, wrapped a load of kitchen roll round it and drove the 12miles to A+E.
Obviously being quite conserned by the blood leaking on the steering wheel + carpets, i drove like a prick, basically. Had the hazards on, flat out down the duelly, touching indicated xx, not really dropping below xxish.
Now im worrying im going to get a ticket or whatever. There was a marked police car going the other way, but i doubt he will have had time to see alot. Theres a couple of new CCTV cameras along there but thats it.
After some stitches its all ok now, got some strange sock/condom thing on each finger.
If anyones interested it was the A14 through suffolk.

remember, you thought you'd cut your finger off and you didn;t have a mobile phone so you wanted to save your finger as you couldn't call an ambulance!

Necessity is a complete defence so you might be okay. It's about weighing up the lesser of two evils, and no court has ever considered any amount of physical harm to be less evil than some non-physical harm.

Having said that, there was a case where a bloke's mate told him he was having a heart-attack, so blokey went speeding up the motorway. It turned out the guy was just bloated and had heartburn, and necessity wasn't accepted as a defence as he could have pulled over to use an emergency phone, or used his mobile phone but driven at the speed limit.

If you had no way of contacting the emergency services you'll be fine I expect.

When MrsGixer was ready to pop with our first child, i drove like an absolute cunt to the hospital - i didn't really need to (she had ages to go), i just thought it was the best excuse i ever had to do it.
I was actually kind of hoping i'd get pulled over by the old bill, and then get a police escort to the hospital, but i think that sort of thing only happens on TV.

There's also an urban myth that a (caught short) pregnant woman may urinate in public into a policeman's helmet, i was desperate to put this to th test with MrsGixer, but, in typical fashion, there's never a copper around when you want one.

Might be as well to put together some evidence that you'd been a spacker and cut yourself up, rather than waiting for the NIP to arrive.

A lot of the A14 between Huntingdon and Cambridge has SPECS speed cameras on it which is a pain, but don't think they extend as far as the Suffolk stretch.

If you didn't get flashed by a speed camera then the chances are you'll be absolutely fine. The police car going the other way wouldn't have been able to do a lot.

Hope that lessens your worry a bit! What address do we send the get well soon cards to? Wink

Sounds to me like you were being a worrying pansy when you were driving to A&E

Even if you'd cut them both clean off you wouldn't have been in any danger of dying if you'd put some pressure on it and driven 12 miles normally, in fact you were probably in more danger of dying because you were driving like a twat than you were from a couple of cuts on your fingers!

That said, you now have proof from the hospital that you visited, should Plod come knocking, but I don't really see why you should get let off to be fair.

So you risked death for a fairly minor injury? Pretty dumb TBH.

Even if you cut your whole thumb off its ridiculously unlikely to be fatal, just put something on it to stop the bleeding and you won't bleed to death. Also, it doesn't have to be a sterile item, the hospital will chuck whatever you put on there anyway Smile

In addition, I know how much BCF Karma blobs float your boat Aerial so I'm giving you the opportunity to take your pick of the plethora of explanations available (in my opinion obviously) before administering the 'thumbs up' Wink
