Its a great idea but it is open to abuse. The only downside is its up to the officer in question or the judge if it gets that far. You get stopped and its a lottery whether you get the points or the course.

If it's ACPO approved, I'd bet my left carb that every "speed awareness" course across the land is run by a spouse, sibling or child of an ACPO nob.

I don't see the issue? All I see is that they have raised the recommended speed at which these courses can be offered as an alternative to the points. If you don't like it, take the points (which is what you would have got anyway under the old guidelines).

Yes, more people will opt to take the courses (and thus raise more revenue), because more people value their licence more than their cash - but it's their choice.

As for the 'lottery' angle, that hasn't changed, just the recommended cut-off limit.
