what the hell is the driver disk going to do to an ethernet port that is already installed within windows?

I doubt it is actually a driver disk for the hub, it will actually install a load of software that isnt needed and brand your internet explorer with bt logos.

The only way you will need a driver CD is if you are connecting to the hub via usb. But from what i remember, BT have moved away from this.

If you really want to sort it out run windows update and check for updated ethernet drivers, try a different network cable, check your network card is running in full duplex, try different ethernet ports on the hub.

I thought modems were the old dial up systems.
Cheers!

A modem is a needed to modulate/demodulate the analog/digital signal and were 1st used for dial up internet access.

Modems are used for cable broadband, adsl broadband, mobile broadband.

The modem is doing it's job, otherwise the wireless speed would be poor as well. I'd check the settings in the hub see if there's any un-neccesary filtering going on etc.

Not fail. I know for a fact that there are no drivers for the BT home Hub....

Like The Godfather said, it has prolly reset all his network settings.

I will also assume that UPNP has been enabled on the laptop and router.

One thing we havent checked out is if the OP is using any software like Norton etc etc which can have a massive effect on individual eth + wifi connections..

Oh dry your eyes I was just taking the piss out of two conflicting statements I wasn't being overly serious, this is the internet.

I understood the material in your post, and that is why I cut the second half of the sentence out, just a joke, obviously you didn't see the funny side of it.
